Just got my Vostro 1500. It's charging right now as I impatiently await play time. Unfortunately I have to go to bed early tonight because of an early morning at work tomorrow (again). I want to at least be able to turn it ON! Yay!

Will post my review, benchmarks, comments in the coming days.

Plug it in and then turn it on?

Why must you let the battery charge?

Not only that, but the laptop battery will come at least partially charged, so there's absolutely no reason why you can't take it out of the box and turn it on right then and there.

Yes, basically to let you know it came. Sorry, I'm just excited. Wifey needs some attention this evening though (she's preggers) so have to make that priority one. Especially if I ever want to get a chance to even turn it on.

Well you better post a decent review if you want the NBR higher-ups to notice you. It's either that or this post will rot in this sub-forum.

BTW, just edit your first post in the future and place your review there.

Yes yes yes. Will edit post for review.

First things first though, the backlight bleed is TERRIBLE! UGH! Looks like it may be an exchange right away. Sucks.

I'm still waiting on mine to arrive. Hopefully I don't get any of the common problems, like grainy screen, or the like.

atm they fail at life. I own one but i'm kinda wishing i hadn't bought it. No big problems just a bunch of little annoying things that add up.

well there's nothing wrong with the dells. I was almost going to buy the 1520, but it was much more expensive before the price drops and the thicnkness scared me away (after seeing the vostro in person, it's actually not THAT bad assuming that I don't carry the notebook around).

I was really laughing at the new inspiron/vostro owners because of the way they act towards getting a new notebook. If you saw the countless threads on people posting on how excited they are about receiving their new notebook, you'd think that they care about it more than their family. For example there was one dude who said he was so obsessed with the status update of his inspiron that he checked it every 2 hours everyday to see if it was production mode yet. Later when the notebook came to the post office station where it would be delivered to him later in the today, he chased down the truck that had his inspiron in it to pick it up.

I know you're excited but chill out, lol. You won't have this same feeling everyday when you turn on your notebook.

LOL now that's too extreme, when I got my vostro I was like meh, check it once a day to see if it went to shipping caz I need it before I move for college. The only time I get excited was the day the DHL knocked on my door for the delivery. By then the excitement finally hit my head and I was playing around with the new Vostro in no time. It's my first time havig a laptop but I didn't go as extreme as the dude mention above...chasing down the truck..lawlage.

OP: congrates on the new Vostro, it's a beast. =D
Definitely better than what I was expecting "Look" wise, a little down by the ddr2 version of 8600 and Vista (I am still trying to get comfortable with it, gotta do it sooner or later, why not now), otherwise, it's perfect.

I wonder how bad your backlight bleeding is....mine has it a little bit too, but not really bad enough for me to be upset...

I'm just happy my screen is otherwise perfect with no graininess..

It's like the bottom 25% of the screen is washed out with a dark background. Almost like spotlights are coming up from the bottom. Same thing from the top but much less severe.

I own three Dell monitors, so I know they know what they're doing. The 2407WFP is a WONDERFUL monitor. Although it took me two exchanges to get one withought backlight bleed. With a black background, it is well, pitch black now. :)

I have no idea. In Windows XP Device Manager it shows it as a generic display.
