    Hello there!

Few days ago I bought dell vostro 1500 with T7300 and GF8600GT 256.
When I installed XP everything was fine, games are working perfectly and I didn't notice any problems. When I turned on my notebook next morning and windows loaded succesfully afeter about 3-4 seconds the display sterted showing some artefacts, lines and the coulors where totally ugly. Windows stoped reacting and I had to turned it off. When I turned on for the second time, the problem was the same. After third time, everything was working fine untill the night (playing games, watching films etc..). Then, in the next morning I turned on my laptop and the problem was again :/ So I restarted laptop for three times and again, everything was ok. And every morning is the same... the display has artefacts for the first 2-4 turnings on and then everything is ok. On Vista I had the same problem. In DOS mode everything is fine all the time. So... it's not the foult of hardware, becouse when windows is loading the colours are ok and in dos mode (bios, etc) everything is fine. I think it's not the foult of the drivers, because the problem is only when I'm turning on laptop for the first three times after 5-8 hours when notebook is turned off. So where is the problem??? What can I do? HELP!!! :(

First try some other modded drivers (Like laptopvideo2go.com drivers)

    I recommend 163.69 for vista & 163.71 for XP :D

I'll and give you the answer next morning :p

EDIT: there is no 163.71 for XP on laptopvideo2go.com and no 163.69 for vista.... where am I suppose to get these drivers from?

EDIT2: ok, I found them on guru3d.com but 163.71 are for both XP and Vista so mayby 163.71 for Vista are better then 163.69?

EDIT3: will I have to change the modden inf from laptopvideo2go.com? if yes, the drivers are useles for me because these drivers are not yet on laptopvideo... :(

none of these drivers are working on vista becasue the installer says that the driver could not find specific hardware. And on laptopvideo2go.com there are no modded inf for 163.44 and 163.69 and 163.71

    what can I do?

    well...
odin243 - thx for the link
bwhxeon - at night I uninstall the gpu drivers and in the morning I turned on my laptop and everything is fine. I don't want to be so happy because it's too early for being happy, but I think that in my case this is the drivers problem. Now I will turn off my laptop and turn it on in 6-8 hours and we'll see...
PS. Under Vista my "artefacts" are a little bit different, sometimes it's just dark screen and system is not reacting, and sometimes white and dark stripes... but those artefact that you had, I had on my last notebook compal FL90. But it happes from time to time and I couldn't proofe to problem to the service even I gave them pictures. So I change comapal into DELL - I though it will be changing earh to heaven...and I got dissapointment :(

You can run ATItool to search artifacts ...

BTW i think your problem is due to bad drivers

I installed 163.71 but the problem is still the same. I uninstall them again and there is no problem. But when I have no drivers the colours on the screen are not really perfect ^^ :p any idea my friends?:>

artifacts are mainly caused by 2 things

    1) over heating of the gpu

    2) driver

check that you're not blocking any vents

or even if you're not blocking vents, and are still getting artifacts, you need to get the gpu replaced by dell

??? There are these vents where hot air is pushed out from the casing. So if you block the vents you are keeping the hot air in the casing. No??

a...now I understand. So I'm not blocking the vents. I think that the problem appears when I install ANY drivers. Having no drivers means to have no problem but it is strange, isin't is? :D

what i meant is that if it was gpu bios, it wouldn't work with no driver, or with driver

in fact, if gpu bios was screwed, your notebook won't even boot
