The title says it all. The only rpgs i played were kotor1 &2 and i loved them. I'm currently hoping that Mass Effect will come for the PC(and my lappy will run it  ), but until then i was wondering if you guys knew any 3RD PERSON rpgs, preferably with a Sci-Fi theme and with a powerfull story element and character interaction(not the hack&slash type). I tried other titles like Lionheart and Diablo, but i hated them: they're just way too complicated for me. KOTOR seemed pretty simple. But that's maybe because i hate the fantasy setting used by most rpgs

True. I love it because of the freedom and huge world. But there is not much from the story-side, it is good but too short for my taste. Now, I love all the mini-stories for most of the quests.

    I hope this can help.

Vampire: the masquerade is another option.

If you are into old games, Final Fantasy VII & VIII.

About the Witcher: No, it is more a Diablo 2 with timing clicks, but it offers a very good story, at least from the demo.

Fallout is post-apocalyptic. Not sure if that is sci-fi enough.

Not really, its more similar to the diablo series but I like it.
    I´d suggest Neverwinter Nights 2 too....no sci-fi theme though

Yeah, The Witcher is a great game. The combat uses a timing based system to get combos (like Phantasy Star Online). It gives you choices, but they are more choices and consequences, not just good or evil choices, which is more realistic. It has a great story and characters. The soundtrack's also very good. I recommend it.

About the Witcher: Is it difficult? I liked kotor because it was very easy and i didn't have to carefully watch every item's stats just in order to pass; a pair of lightsabers with a few freebie crystals + daviks war suit=easy game.

vampire bloodlines can be played in 3rd person and it's not set in fantasy setting with elves and orcs.

edit: hellgate london and freedom force are good choices but you may quickly get bored of hellgate.

Hmm. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is a pretty fun non-fantasy RPG.

It isn't very much like Kotor though.

Man, you are really missing out with Mass Effect. It is EXACTLY what you'd want right now. I hope they come out with a PC version as well. It seems likely.

That said, keep an eye out for SpaceSiege, a sci-fi RPG that you'd probably like. You'd have to wait awhile though, Summer 08.

Fallout is a good sci-fi RPG. Fairly complex compared to KOTOR though.

Uhh....OH! SystemShock 1 and 2!!!! Although the first one is more straight FPS, the second introduces definite RPG elements with what essentially amounts to a skill system.

Diablo 2 is complicated for you?

In any case I would go for hellgate london, very sci-fi if thats what you're looking for.

Recommend the Witcher (have been for some time). Combat isn't extremely complicated and the timing system is easy to get used to with some playtime. It's not the same as Diablo where you get tons of loot and have to choose, in this game the stock items given free to you can finish the game. As an example there are only 3 sets of useable armour in the whole game and the 1st is given right at the prologue.

    Yup, they better :D

My greatest worry however is that, judging by the screenshots, it has an absolutely impressive graphics, and i'm afraid that my setup(see sig) won't run it. :( :( :(

Guild wars is a mmorpg but once you leave a town the outside world is only yours, it allows for the missions to be followed, but there are lots of side quests to do so the gameplay doesn't get to linear.

    *raises wtf flag at bioshock*

he's looking for 3rd person not first person ^_^

you can always scale it down. it'll still look pretty it just wont ahve those super special effects like some ridiculously unneccessary bloom lighting.

true, but, since it will be a console port, i expect it to have shoddy coding, just like kotor, so that might be a problem. And just out of curiosity, were bioware's games graphics intensive(for their time)? Or were they like blizzard's?

If your question is specifically about KOTOR, it was a medium graphics intensive game. More than Blizzard but not on the other extreme.

Eve online is hands down the best sci-fi MMORPG...in my opinion the best mmorpg. I know you asked for an rpg but check it out, has an incredible deep story and good missions(for the single player stuff) ....but playing in a group is where the real fun is.
