Just input your info and download it. There is supposed to be improved performance due to shader optimizations. There is also some compatibility and stability fixes for some games.
"Improved 3D performance and load times for GeForce 8 and 9 series GPUs in some DirectX 9, DirectX 10 and OpenGL applications as a result of an improved shader optimizer."
Heres my modded INF for 8600m GT. Just change the file type back to inf.
Going to go test now!
NEWS: Nvidia Has released the BETA 177.39 with GPU PhysX support for 9800 gtx, gtx 280/260.

Kinda but not really and off topic question i have. Could you explain briefly how you were able to add your card to the .inf? I always wanted to do this instead of going to laptopvideo2go.
-
BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
Have you tried it yet?
Any better than 177.35?
Thanks in advance... -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
You have to identify your gpu id. THe 8600m gt is 407. Then you add a hardware string ID for it as well as a PC ID. Then you need the installer information. I'll write it up for you. Just pm me.
My minimum FPS has increased which is great and the average fps has increased by at least 1-2 fps. Gonna try some other games soon. -
Yay! New driver from Nvidia's website! Thanks Forerunner! Will report back with results.
-
the drivers are dated from may 16 when you dxdiag them, thanks nvidia for old drivers. Anyways, these drivers are better than 175.16, much more stable, i get no freezing in age of conan anymore
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
stop whining. laptopvideo2go posts leaked drivers. thats all well and good, but nvidia is only going to officially release drivers that meet a certain level of quality expectations. they can't release something officially the day they write it... they do some serious testing first. this should be obvious. that's why laptopvideo2go driver quality is hit and miss, and nviida official releases are more spot on. -
I wanna try these but I'm not real technical with computers. How are you suppose to change your modified 8600m gt file to inf?
I tried to upgrade to 177.35 when I saw your post, but when I downloaded the driver and the modified inf from laptopvideo2go and tried to install it using have disk method I got to the part where it suppose to automatically highlight the type of video card you have (mines is 8600m gt) but it wasn't an option only the gtx 280, 260 and nforce 780a, 750a sli were options to choose from so I just cancelled from there. Then I thought about YOUR modded inf for 8600m gt thinking that would make the 8600m gt show as an option with the other cards so I downloaded that but when I double clicked it, it opened in ms office in word document and I didn't know what to do from there. How to change the type to inf. So I still haven't been able to try 177.35. But I see these 175.19 drivers officially support the 8 series so if I use the have disk method (which is the only way I know how to upgrade) will I see my card (btw it's 8600m gt in sli) highlighted and do I have to download your modded inf and change the type in order for it to work.
Sorry for so much questions. I'm trying to learn. Right now I'm using 174.31 on my Toshiba x205 sli1, and the only other driver I've tried was 174.74. So I don't have to much experience updating drivers. Thanks -
Which concurs with today's patch
. It started 2 weeks ago and stopped with today's patch. You're talking about the client error right?
I'm still getting major 5 seconds lag when I aggro a Boss though -
nvidia does release beta drivers, this time they didnt release the beta but waited for the certification for so long, so i dont appreciate u calling me a whiner. I dont care for whql, and i dont trust laptopvideo2go leaked crap, but i do trust the betas released from nvidia. Obviously you dont know that nvidia has a page with early beta releases that has not been updated for a while.
And i didnt have client errors in age of conan, i has bluescreening and freezing that required a hard boot, which has now ended -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah they are dated. There was discussion on other forums about this. It is wqhl certified and the fact that they are making drivers specific for the gt2xx which may delay these drivers being processed. Especailly with nvidia focusing on cuda and physx.
Yeah you kinda expect some kind of improvement with official releases. The leaked drivers are exactly as you said, often hit and miss.
No problem. We are all here to lean. I don't use the have disk method to install drivers. I just execute the setup.
Here read's chaz's guide.

For my inf when I meant rename it all you have to do is, right click on the file rename, then change the .doc to .inf and then replace this inf with the inf in the driver folder. Then launch the exectuer and your good to go.
Heres the recommended steps to installing drivers.
1. Uninstall old drivers by going to device manager and clicking on display, 8600mgt, then uninstall driver.
2. Then put your computer in safe mode by going to msconfig, boot, check safe mode.
3.Restart
4. Use a registry cleaner such as ccleaner or driver sweeper.
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655
5. Install the new driver.
6. Go to msconfig and uncheck safe boot and restart.
7. Your done!
Please do. Its a toss up between these and the 177.35s, this did better in grid but those did better in mass effect. Each iwth a noticeable impact. guild wars is the same. Not many games to test on since i uninstalled a bunch of my games. -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
I think that was because of the major patch Funcom add to AoC today, which included some rewritten code to help improve performance and crashes. -
honestly, and im not whining, all my games were crashing in vista 64 because of the bad nvidia drivers for it, but it stopped so im assuming these drivers fixed it...and if you want proof search vista 64 and BCcode 117 and you will see how many people had issues
-
When you download the main driver file from Nvidia and run it, it will extract all of the needed files to C:/Nvidia/ but you can specify where you want it to be extracted. I usually just set it to extract to a folder I create on my desktop. The setup will continue and then fail. Take the inf from Forerunner (after you change the .doc to .inf) and then place it in the folder you extracted the driver to. Now it will ask you if you want to replace the file with the new one, select to replace the original inf with the one from forerunner.
Now just go into that folder and double click on the setup.exe and it will carry you through the install process simply.
Just make sure to at least go to add/remove programs in the control panel and uninstall "Nvidia Drivers" before you install the new ones.
EDIT: OH! And I went from 12FPS avg in the Crysis Demo GPU benchmark to 14FPS avg. This is significant, about 16% increase. What's more, the benchmark is MUCH MUCH smoother. Less jumpyness overall. They did a good job with these drivers. I haven't tried these with any other game yet, but so far I'm liking them. -
im on driver 174.93 on my 8700mGT, are these drivers recommended by anyone for me?
-
Very much. Yes. These drivers are for you.
-
ANyone with a 8800m gtx try these yet. Right now im running the 175.75 they seem ok, I wonder if these will be an improvement?
-
I've got the DDR2 8600 GT here and am wondering if it's worth the upgrade from 174.74. Only games I'm playing right now would be the DMC4 demo, Civ4, Heroes V and the Witcher Enhanced edition when it's released.
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
From the 175 you might see a minor improvement. From the 174s it should be noticeable.
-
All I'm finding on the nv site is 177.35. What card do I have to input for it to show 175.19? It doesn't even let me enter the 8600M GT.
-
Thanks, I'll give it a go after work today if the performance gains are noticeable and stability doesn't plummet.

Hi,
I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask about this.... but anyway,
I have been having a problem with my 8600M GT (Asus G1S). Whenever I unplug the power adapter, the GPU always operates in 2D mode (169 MHz core and 100 MHz memory), it stucks all the way in 2D mode on whatever applications that I run (e.g. games, movie players, etc). I am using 175.16 with modded inf from laptopvideo2go btw. At the moment running any applications that require GPU processing power in battery mode becomes totally out of the question.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks -

I think it's the power mizer.
-
I needed a modded INF for the 8600m GT but in x64. anyone know how to do this?
-
Do i just rename the .doc file to .inf? I tried and it doesnt really change anything cuz now its nv_disp.inf.doc ?
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
No no. Replace .inf with .doc . Your just changing the file type.
-
Yeah it doesnt work on my laptop for some reason..it just names it nv disp.inf.doc or nv_disp.inf.txt...it doesnt change the file format..can someone do this for me? I dont know why my lappy does it though
-
Actually that's the problem as well.... I tried to set it to high performance mode while on battery and the GPU was still clocked to 168/100 which is very weird....
-
start>control panel>classic view>folder options>view> uncheck hide extentions for known file types
Then rename the file from nv_disp.doc to nv_disp.inf -
Thanks mi3X
since there are shader optimizations, that means they are really good drivers right?
))
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Or just listen to mi3x.
It can be powermizer and/or and your gpu's bios. When you take it offer battery power it downclocks itself to save power. -
k its done...im ready to update now..are these suppose to be better than 177.35? if not im reverting :S
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
They are similar. Both are good. Just give them a spin.
-
Uhmm... but that kinda defeats the purpose of mobile gaming doesn't it? Sometimes I just want to do a quick gaming session while on battery but the driver prevents me from doing that because the GPU is permanently clocked at 2D mode while on battery.
-
Well i am running 177.35 rite now...i hope shader optimization is a good thing and will be a + for performance.
ill give them a go and report back tomorow. cuz i gotta get some shut eye.
Night peoples of NBR
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah I know. I tried it now and it downclock but clicking on high performance brings it back up to stock. -
Well... my GPU stays the same (2D mode) even if I set the laptop to high performance...it wasn't like this while I was still using the stock driver that I received from Asus (16x.xx can't remember...). I guess I am going to try 175.19 later after I come back from work and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for the tips

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
what do i do to get the macbook pro 8600m gt up and running w/ this driver?
