Battle Chess is available at gog.com. I so totally forgot about this game. It was a great chess game with animated units that did a battle scene.

Check it out if you like Chess, or just for nostalgia's sake!

I loved playing that game! It probably sucks pretty badly now. It was so much fun to watch the pieces fight. Now I just skip 90% of cutscenes in games.

It was the closest thing to having a Star Wars hologram chess board. I loved Battle Chess.

Haha that was an awesome game. I remember playing Battle Chess along with Hardball and that F1 racing game but I forget what it's called now.

There was a game on my old Tandy Color Computer (TRS-80) that was like a chess, game but different rules. And you actually had to fight in 3D (wireframe) to take the spot. So even if you were on the offense, you still had to fight to win. Great game. I just wish I could remember the name.

Sounds similar to Archon, which was a 2D battle. Great game that's getting remade with updated graphics... it's actually out as an app on the Iphone now.

WOW! This was the first video game I ever played! I loved it. After our amiga computer died, I always looked for a chess game like it.

    Thanks for the memories.

They did a remake of Archon some time ago...

Every piece actually had two attacks or abilities.

Had to love "feathering" someone to death with the once-pointless (original Archon) Pheonix.

i am a programmer on my free time and I always wanted to do something like this using OpenGL. Only the poly count would be much higher. Im glad someone did it even if it wasnt me, because its something ive thought about for a long time.

Battle Chess, played that on the Amiga a whole bunch. Great way to get kids interested in Chess. They should make an updated version.
