Just a quick question, since my search button seems to be disabled, but what program was it that cleans out old drivers? I want to install these, but I want to run that program first.

Why not just uninstall the display drivers, reboot, install new, reboot, install new?

And .26 was really good? I am still using 169.04 I think. Will I notice a big difference with .26?

Yes, replace it with my inf I posted in the 3rd post and it should definitel work. Change the .doc to .inf and replace the original inf.

Its uninstall. Reboot in safe mode. Use all registry cleaners/driver sweeper then install new ones. THen reboot and your done.

Got a 2-3 FPS Boost in Grid with these. I'll take what I can get.

    Upgraded from 169.04 to 177.26

Got an extra 4 FPS in CSS stress, and an extra 100 points in 3dmark06.

I'll keep it, for now. Gonna leave 169.04 in my documents just in case.

169.04 was outclassed by 171.16, then 174.74 ages ago. It's time to retire the 16x.xx series for good. Just a bit of friendly advice.

Do you have any problems with the driver downclocking during games? I haven't been able to get any of the newer 174,175 or 177 series drivers (post 174.16) to run with out downclocking during gameplay. I've even disabled PowerMizer using registry edits, all to no avail. I have monitored my temps and they all seem to vary as to when it starts to downclock. I'm not sure exactly what causes it, but temperature is definately not the cause-usually they don't get past 80C before downclocking, whereas the working ones happily hit 95C and don't downclock.

I just used the driver and inf from Lv2g and they worked fine.

My 3dmark06 score dropped though, by 17 points. .26>.35

    Testing css now.

CSS tress test went from 111.02 to 111.10

So I guess these aren't really too different in the long haul.

    Ok .
    1) I still cannot create custom resolution, Nvidia, i hope your HQ blow up .
    2) MS , I hope your HQ blow up also. Crysis apparently runs 5-8 fps slower than XP at the same config. Patched, updated and all, but since my card could play the game all high at 25fps before, now it stays at 15-18.

I am so pissed right now, I need to get XP back on the computer. Screw Vista.
I really thought SP1 made a difference, but in gaming it did NOT. Or even if it did, it`s not enough for the hardcore gamer in me...
    God gamnit...

    Ahaha thanks but I'm 64bits.

Since I tried to install them, it messed everything up. After 2 hours I got 177.26 to install but it would stay at 275/550/200 always. Cannot play a game >_>. I sweeperised it and all but still nothing

EDIT: Finally got them to work. It's in times like this I'm proud & happy to be a geek XD. Gonna test 177.35 in AoC tomorrow !

Its not vista that makes your game run slower, its DX 10, you can still run the game in DX 9 in vista and you'll get your old fps back

    No, UT3 also.
Which is pretty weird but also makes sense in a way.
I`m used to playing games at 40-60fps so 10fps frame drop won`t be noticeable.
However in Crysis where I could play it all high fluently, in Vista not even 640x480 will play ok all high. Darn it.

    And UT3 - played at 960x600,with forced 2AA and stayed at 60fps.
Now ...well,can`t even use 960x600, the damn custom resolution button won`t stay ticked!

Maybe just try another driver ? Because as far as I can tell....
    1. On my old OLD desktop, I barely noticed performance difference between XP and Vista, even though you guys are right... it must be there!
    2. That custom resolution button remains ticked for me..

What ELeron said is the thing i was telling all m9750 about. the Go7 series has MAJOR problems with Vista, and how about SLI? it never works under Vista (well it does, but not like XP), anywayz, about the driver, if COD4 is your favourite game then get this driver, i'm waiting for it to be XG'ed

i finally wanted to try this but was hesitant because my last drivers were running well. i came from 175.50. when i installed it my gaming ranking dropped from 5.2 to 4.9. i was just about to change it back but i wanted to play a few games.

I was amazed how it ran CSS, Assassins Creed, Rainbow6 V2, Fear a whole lot better and more stable than the drivers before. Keeping these for a while. Oh i also disabled the Powermizer as well. So far so good.

You`re right, I have a hard time believing it`s the drivers, changed like 50 of them, not one will let me use custom res.
brainer, you`re using XP? do you also have vista? if not, is there a 7950GTX Vista user that can check if he`s allowed to use custom resolutions not displayed by the screen?
The only conclusion I have is the same as Brainer`s ... the 7th series are buggy with Vista.
