    Hi...

After confirming that 8700m & 8800m GTX are both MXM3 ... 8800m GTS seems also to be MXM3 from:

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-8800M-GTS.6934.0.html

It says that the card consumes 35 watts!!! means its an MXM3 type...

So... what about us....MXM2 owner what do we have lift???

We cant upgrade to any new powerful card....

Is that it??......Do we have to sell our laptops and get new models that has these new card????

I dont know about nvidia....But i thinks MXM3 has many cards now....they should focus on producing new cards for the MXM2...

What about the upcoming 9XXXm series are they gonna suppot MXM2 or what???

Quit freaking out...this is old news. If you would've searched some you would've come to the same conclusion. Yes it's MXM III, but it comes down to your laptop manufacturer to make something that will fit in your MXM II. Take my C90S from Asus for example, we have a MXM II slot, however, Asus is working on a 8800m for our notebook.

Well I still see the point in getting some new more powerfull mxm-II cards out there. There's a market for it for sure, a inbetween card of 8700m and 8800m and that wouldnt disturb the king of the hill 8800m gtx.

you come on her all mad because you cant UPGRADE YOUR "LAPTOP" GFX CARD. when you buy a laptop you should not have bought it with the intention of swapping every part in it, you should have got a desktop.

and it depends completely on what your notebook manufacturer does. if they deem it neccesary to make this mxm2 8800m GTX then they would.

also there are power limitations so it would likely be almost impossible to put an 8800m GTX or like on an MXM 2 because it consumes well over 22 watts which is the limit for MXM 2.

    and search next time.

If you wanted a notebook with a replacable video card you should've done more research, MXM IV is one of the reasons I want the notebook in my sig (then if the 10xx series requires MXM 5 I could run two 9800M GTXs, or whatever's the fastest mobile 9 series card, in SLI and get close performance to the new video cards).

Simply because they cant! What's wrong with you? You're like asking people to mount car's engine onto bicycle.

Agree with the others, you should really do some research, notebook is not desktop.

Sorry to burst your bubble man.

But the Alienware M17x (from my sources) is NOT using MXM-IV.... rather its using another smaller and proprietary and/or "special" MXM type.

It's like asking a 8800GTX to be run on a 450W powersupply with a silent cooling. MXM2 is made for mid-range, not high end.

Why are you guys moaning and crap?!

Do some research... I believe the 9XXX will have some MXM2 in it... but probably not the 9800 gtx

I heard they are working on C90S with 8800m gtx but that will probably be a new C90s...

Cite your research instead of putting forward empty claims. Unless the die shrink process is really that powerful the MXM2 format cannot physically support high-performance 9 series cards, low-end budget models could make the cut but that is speculation until the cards are actually released.

Seeing the cpu board shrink of the macbook air, i think it might be possible... It's just the case of whether if Nvidia wants it or not.

Doesn't the macbook air use the integrated Intel X3100 only? I don't see the connection between that board shrink and a 9 series Nvidia card fitting in an MXM-2 slot.

Check the cpu, it's smaller than a normal c2d. Yes, it doesnt really connect directly... but seems like there is a way to make the board even smaller. And trust me.. Nvidia won't be tat stupid to make all their cards MXM-3, consider this.. there are more MXM-2(or similar footprint) notebook there than MXM-3.

I've contacted Alienware directly about the m15x and m17x and they said the video card is upgradable, since it has the 8800M GTX it has to atleast use MXM III, and since the M9750 uses MXM III (otherwise it wouldn't be upgradable to the 8700M GT), I'm pretty sure the m15x and m17x will uses MXM IV. BTW, if you guys never noticed there's a guide on Alienware's site on upgrading the video card (it's in the knowledgebase) on the m9750, and I'm sure when the m17x comes out they'll post a guide for that, too.
