I got this error...5 minutes into playing a FRESH installed TF2 along with a FRESH install of windows vista. I reformatted last night and finished installing TF2 this morning before school. I get on to play and 5 damn minutes in of playing hl2.exe has a stupid error and closes. I reformatted in the first place so that TF2 would work right. Gr.

Try reinstalling everything again tomorrow before school?
-
...i JUST reinstalled EVERYTHING yesterday..lol I know there has to be some sort of bug fix or something. I'm not gonna reinstall everything again lol...If anything I'll install XP on my second partition but i'd rather not do that.
I think I found a fix for the lump error. http://www.systemsabuse.com/2007/11...-x-allocation-of-x-bytes-failed-engine-error/ -
Run MemTest86+ on the RAM.

I have ran memtest86, various tests for a total of probably 2 hours now..
I've ran a few hours of Prime95
I've ran an hour or 2 of OCCT.
I've ran 30+ mins of Super Pi.
All came back without a problem.
I guess I could run memtest tonight...what test should I do?
The thing is, the random error I get is nothing like anyone else has said about. All of their errors seem to be accompanied by a sound loop, but mine really doesn't do that. -
try a different driver
-
Any suggestions for a driver?
8800gt desktop card. -
You have everything BUT* the PSU listed. If your PSU cannot provide adequate and/or stable power for your hardware, it will get ****ty with you.
Try an install of XP, Vista sucks for gaming compared to it. -
750 watt rosewill extreme gaming... I know rosewill isn't the most reputable brand but this model has GREAT reviews on newegg and it was at the right price at the right time..
I'm very certain that its not the psu. Either way...my whole system doesn't crash, the game just crashes to the desktop and the "hl2.exe has had a problem and needs to close" thing pops up. -
i know it sounds tedious but jsut do the have disk method from laptop2go and install a driver that is one rollback version from the one you are using. then if it still doesnt work, try the next one back.
or if you dont have a whole day to kill, try googling or looking through forums (there are alot of topics looking for good drivers for all graphics cards on this site i know) for reputable drivers that work for tf2 -
The previous version of driver was the one I was using pre-format and the crashes were the reason I formatted in the first place.
This is a desktop 8800gt btw. -
Try force dx9 rendering
Here is how
http://www.hlfallout.net/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t48614.html -
TF2 runs in DX9 and lower ONLY, if you just installed Vista it only comes with DX10, you may still be missing some of the DX9 library files since vista DOES NOT come with them.
-
So what would I have to do? Install dx9 also?
-
DirectX 10 emulates dx9. I doubt that is the problem, given that there are thousands of people who run these games fine on Vista.
-
Well while playing portal I just got a bluescreen related to something nvsumthinstumthin.dll
so... i'm gonna try out Omega Drivers for my video card.
WTF @ Valve and TF2
