Its like my life never gets easy, and im always having problems. This time it has to do with counterstrike Source. 3 days ago, it worked fine, didnt have time to get on until today, and i get this error when the game starts, and if im lucky to get into the main menu, when i click a button it crashes with that error. Now i know about setting the -dxlevel 70 80 81 and 90, but if i set the levels anything other than the default, it crashes. As a matter of fact, anything put into the start up settings either crashes the game, or it does not start. I have re-installed the game, updated video card drivers, everything i could think of. Anyone have any suggestions before i go insane?

What the fudge? I'm on your buddy list?

I assume you did this but have to ask because you didnt specifically mention it, DX9 latest runtime?
Sometimes I have DX9 installed and some games give me a DX9 error and I'm like huh...so I run the latest runtime and sure enough it installs some files I was missing (This happened in COD4, I ran their DX runtime on the disc and it fixed it)
also if your running ATI Tray Tools for source games you might want to turn it off, I know for one thing it breaks the steam overlay in game with ATT's default overlay on. -
No, i do not run the tray tools durring steam, but DX9 Latest Runtime? Would you care to elaborate on that?
-
I used to have this problem with my Alienware 7700 with an ATI x800 mobility installed.
It was often the DX9 runtime that needed to be reinstalled...but to be honest the problem would reappear every few months and would just suddenly rectify itself after a couple of weeks.
Luckily Vista seems to have solved whatever the problem was...it seems only to happen with ATI cards in XP...something about the DX runtime.
As Chroniss posted, download the updated run-times. -
Alright, I ran the Runtime setup, and it still crashes with the same error. But i can get to the point where i can select a server. But once im connecting, the game crashes saying "Unable to locate models/weapons/w_ump_45" or something like that. Then once i click 'ok' then the error message about Dx9 Runtime comes up.

Other than that...not much else you can do besides deleting the game and waiting a couple of days before downloading again.
It is an annoying issue, I'd assumed ATI had fixed it by now. -
Nope, Source SDK is not downloaded.
When i downloaded DX9 thing, i got like 50 rar files. Is there anything i should do with those? All i did was launch the Setup. -
If you google your error, you'll find other people with the error on the net with various ideas. I used to go searching for a fix that way. Sometimes they worked, sometimes not. -
Alright, well im going to go a searching.

Just curious, Are you overclocking?
I used to receive that error when I overclocked too high... -
I had this issue when I played a source game and then go play another source game. I think it might be something wrong with ATI drivers as of late, but yea definitely update that directx drivers try going this route to install those drivers:

Ill add you right now,
But no im doing no overclocking right now. I normally use ATT for an FPS counter, just because i really dont like FRAPS. Tonight i reverted back to my stock drivers, and am re-installing the game as we speak. I shall post my results tomorrow sometime.
If you come up with anymore ideas let me know.
AND I was using Omega Drivers, and this is the first time i used Omega, i normally used Catalyst.
WTF more CS:Source problems!?!?!?
