I recently put Half-Life 2 on this computer. I think its the 2004 version.

I have never played Half-Life 1, do not know the story or what's going on clearly. Only bought HL2 because it supposedly won 35 GOTY awards. It is really fun so far.

I've searched online but dont really get the basics to the story. I understand so far HL2 is the continuation of some bad experiment in Black Mesa. What was HL1 about? What is HL2:Episode 1, 2 and 3? How does Portal relate to the HL series?

If you have time, please explain. Sorry to bother.

I said I tried searching but didn't understand how the HL stories and Portal relate to each other (if they do at all). Just need a quick answer from people who have played the games.

That is what a forum is for.

No one knows for sure yet about the tie-in between Portal and HL (2). All we know is that Aperture Science was competing for research grants against Black Mesa. Also, at the end of episode two, Aperture Science is brought up, and should play a large role in episode three.

Okay great, I didn't plan on buying Portal and seems like I won't either. Investing into HL2: E1, E2 and E3 when it releases seems pretty good though.

Unfortunetely, I already gave HL1 storyline a skim and will probably forget it soon. It's pretty old, almost a decade old. Is it worth buying?

you can buy hl1, ep1, ep2, portal, and tf2 together in the orange box for $40.

plus you get access to some sick mods that are now incorporated into steam...

I'm quite mifed that they removed the particle accelerator gun from HL2. That was the best weapon ever!
