the 8 minute gameplay footage looks very interesting.
I wouldn't pre-order, but I might consider it after reading some reviews.
It seemed a little hard to tell the different classes apart, other than the warrior with the axe, most of them had slightly similar animations for their special attacks.
some of it reminded me a bit of Magicka, which I assume was probably in turn inspired by Diablo 2?

Every isometric RPG from the last 10 years was inspired by Diablo 2, which was the followup of Diablo 1.

This thread is ridiculous. It reminds me of all of the people that watch the news and then freak out over nothing. Why is everyone a lemming? Just because one person hears one side (or even part of a side) of an argument and posts a very biased post; does not mean you have to jump right on ship.
Read more, find out the actual story and draw your own conclusions. There has only been a few well thought out and informed posts on this. I would very much like this thread to be about D3 so we can discuss all of the new things coming out.
Not to mention, has Blizzard ever made a shoddy game? We all know that this game will be great. Blizzard knows what players want and just because they simplified it in one area, does not mean it is simplified. I read an article a little bit ago about how these things that everyone is freaking out about, namely runestones and skills will be simplified. But, at the same time the gear is really where it makes the difference. They said there would be gear that will determine your powers. I would take cool, hard to find rare gear that determines my powers over skills. That's just me, but know that there are other outlets for hardcore players. -
I wonder how the ingame AH is gonna change the feel of the game. I mean, before, if I found a neat item, it'd be like... cool, let's stash this for when I'm levelled enough to use it, or for a respec, or for an alt.
Now, if I find a high-level item, it's gonna be... am I really going to trade $50 for the ability to walk around with some powerful bling? -
Yay for Diablo 3 The MMO
Requires to be connected to the internet to play single player.
Goodjob Blizzard! -
Excuse me, If you read the beginning of this thread (instead of just some posts) you can see I stated " Let's share some news about this game, one of the most anticipated sequels (on pair with SC2).". Then I post some news I found and THEN, MY opinion. If you think MY opinion is biased (you said: " Just because one person hears one side (or even part of a side) of an argument and posts a very biased post") because it don't match YOURS, I believe you don't understand the meaning of OPINION. Then, Everybody stated THEIR opinions about THE NEWS that are on the internet (I didn't made it) and opinions about other opinions.
Beside that, the news I shared was NOT an opinion of a magazine editor, but part of an Interview with Blizzard people. -
Your last paragraph's tone nullified whatever you were trying to do in your first 2 paragraphs.
As for the game, constant internet connection in singleplayer mode is unacceptable. I do not care for cash microtransactions. -
I can't wait for this game!
Definately going to be buying it. -
The answer to that is in the eyes and mind of the beholder, obviously. I tried WoW for several months because some work buddies were insanely into it. Didn't care for it much from the get go, but I gave them their request..."3 months and we will convert you from DDO" Well, it didn't happen (wasn't crazy about Warcraft 3 either), and the biggest reason is why I am so on the fence about D3 after being addicted to D2...
The graphics, or should I say the character style...just too dam cartoony. But the overall world from screenies and vids I have seen of D3 are too WoW-ish; not at all what I would expect given technology these days, not even close to replicating the dark environment of D2. Now, gameplay that I like and expect might make up for this, but it didn't in WoW. IMO, WoW was shoddy, I just hope D3 isn't.
Now they throw in having to connect to internet for single player campaign? I never played the first one in MP. I play some at work, and a lot when family goes camping and to lakehouse (camper and lakehouse have no internet connection), so what then? Those obviously aren't only times I play, but still...It's BS and seriously has me thinking about not getting the game. The rationale in the article is very feeble to support their reasoning for sticking to this business model. -
I have mixed feelings. One point I want to make is that I like to game to take a break from reality or the stress of the world. Blurring that line with the real money would change the goals and objectives of the game. I understand its going to happen like in D2, but sure wish it wouldn't be made easier and in fact part of the game. I can play online poker for that but a fantasy game??
What's next, Cain saying "stay a while and listen, for a small fee"?
I still want to get the game but I might start looking for similar alternatives. Been playing since D1. -
D3 has been in development so long that it will likely change many times between now and release.
I am not too worried about D3 being a bad game.
Blizzard makes solid games.
Blizzard's weakness is in building communities... WoW and battle.net are a cesspool of the worst personalities in all of computer gaming. -
None of that was directed toward you. I wanted it to get back on track to what you started. I was just tired of people hearing one thing and then just jumping to conclusions before knowing enough about it or how it will affect them.
-
In my opinion this will probably lead to demonstrations from the gamers where it will hurt Blizzard the most: Pirating.
I mean, crackers like skidrow will 100% release a cracked version of D3 with a patch that will disable the server depending single player, and let people play without internet connection. And that will lead to pirating. Mark my words -
And Blizzard will regret their decision to remove offline singleplayer, because many people would have bought the game if that was in. Others will just pirate D3 out of spite or the sake of boycotting the development team's bad decisions.
-
If it gets to be a pain in the , I won't have any problem with being one of those people.. But since I'll have paid for it to begin with I don't see it as a problem. Not to mention that Blizzard has more money than any other developer, so releasing a game for free wouldn't hurt them anyways, it would just mean a pay cut for the already audaciously wealthy boardmembers.
-
My apologies then...
-
Really? The folks I meet playing SC2 are really quite pleasant and courteous. Except for zerg players (sorry, but it's true). Comparing the personalities I've met playing COD4 and the personalities I've met playing SC2, I'd take the latter every time.
-
So in Q4 we have ...
- Diablo 3
- Battlefield 3
- Star Wars TOR
- Heroes 6
...my life is over
My expectations for D3 is set at "very high" (10/10) and Blizzard has never disappointed me thus far. -
Save a bit of yourself for Mass Effect in Q1 2012. You'll be glad you did.
-
I think calling them cesspools is a little unfair to blizzard. Their games are super popular and attract all kinds of players. Any popular game will have it's fair share of trolls and tools.
They're miles better than the communities that surround the DoTA like games (HoN I'm looking at you). -
HoN/DoTA populations are the worst.
and you forgot about mw3
-
TOR will kill every weekends....
-
I actually think this is a very good point to address. We all know third party sites make business out of buying and selling virtual goods for real money, but, because this was always both against the rules and looked down upon, only a minority of players indulged in those services. D3 will, as it stands, make this both part of the game and possibly more morally acceptable by the community; therefore more people will partake in the buying and selling of items for real money. This is really going to close the gap between the game and real life because now as you play, you'll be continuously thinking, in the back of your mind, "is farming this or saving that really worth $5 or $20 outta my wallet?"
I can't say for sure, but I don't really like the idea of worrying about my finances while playing an MMO. -
Something that is "just popular" has an even distribution of people... from low to high.
You have your absolute tools and the people you want to play every time if possible. You also have "in the middle" people... the quiet ones... the guys who trash talk a little, but keep it real, and the people who honestly try to make you a better player overall.
Nearly every experience I have ever had in multiplayer games on battle.net are with people who are so far on the "tool" end of the scale that it isn't even funny. Most pretty much admit they are cheating (or prove it by duping in front of you) and then call you stupid for not doing the same.
In the case of WoW, I always feel like I am paying to babysit other people's children.
In ANY online game you have your share of tools... and your share of great people. On battle.net, even the beta communities are vast-majority tools.
Any in other beta community you usually have an amazing array of wonderful people to play with.
I meet VERY few people who will even just be a shade of grey for me on battle.net. I admit that experiences vary... but my experiences with battle.net have been consistently HORRID. Not just moderately irritating... not just bad... but genuinely so bad that I refuse to put up with it.
This is coming from a guy who teaches computer basics to grandmas, chess to ADHD teens, and tutors math. -
You're not playing with a good group then. Look up TheAmazonBasin or BaronsBazaar; I've played D2 with them for years and they are some of the most mannered and mature gamers I have ever played online with in any game.
-
Have you ever played Starcraft II on Battle.net? That is so far opposite from my Starcraft II experience that I'm having trouble wrapping my head around it.
-
It could also mean an evolution in gaming. Other games that use some sort of money or credits could easily follow suit. I just hope that the choice to just play for fun will always remain. Still really looking forward to D3 though.
Can you still hold a key like alt in D2 and see the names of the drops? I haven't noticed in any of the videos. -
Played in late beta and early release as a friend was trying to get me to play it.
After the experience I had, I haven't played since.
Really too bad, as I liked SC1... -
You should give it another shot. We're now in season 3 of the ladder matches, talent of the competition has gone up (I'm a hundred times better than when I started, but I'm still in Bronze League, which means everyone else got a hundred times better too), and 90% of the rude idiots have moved on to some other latest-and-greatest game.
My username is Mitlov on battle.net. I'm usually on in the late evenings and always up for a friendly game. -
Yes, and it seems now D3 will try to push the boundaries of transactions...

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
JOKES!!! I LOL'd So hard I love penny arcade!
-
Lol, I never liked Dragon Age but still a great joke. Loved the gamers dialogue.
This does resemble what I'm talking about though. I don't roleplay in any MMO or game but even so I still wanna be drawn into the game's unreality, not my own reality. -
