I had 3 copies of Portal 1, I now have 1 left. Wanted to trade it for AC2.
Sorry if this is the wrong section.

If your doing this over steam it is against the eula to be doing that so I would watch out
-
I cant gift someone a game through steam?
-
If he has an extra copy of Portal and someone has an extra copy of AC2, they can gift it to each other. Why would that be against Stream EULA?
-
I mean techincly is trading games which steam doesnt like... i dought anything negative would happen but if it was my account i wouldn't risk it
-
You can't trade games on steam, they are attached to the account...
-
If someone has an AC2 they haven't installed, I believe they can do it.
-
That would be gifting then...
-
Which is the only way of trading steam games.
They give you a copy of a game, you give them a copy. In this case, he's giving a copy of portal for a copy of Assassins Creed 2. Sure it's "gifting" each other but technically, it's also trading games -
Can't you get Portal 1 free anyways, just by signing up for steam?
-
I think think that was a promotion for Mac users. Steam seems to be making a lot special treatment for Mac users.
Which is too bad, because that means all their future games will be limited to the MacBook Pro laptops. So don't expect any major overhauls to the Source Engine for better looking games. DX9 for a very long time. -
That was to celebrate that Steam was available on Mac (as if that was a reason to celebrate about). As far as I know that free Portal stuff isn't working anymore.
-
if you got portal during the giveaway the few days the mac version came out it is yours to keep for life

No, even if the game's not installed, the game's tied to the person's account. For 'trading' each party member has to buy a game and then gift it to the other. If someone has already purchased it for himself, then he can't trade it. So the question is,
IS THERE someone that is willing to spend 30 dollars for a 15 dollar game? I don't think so. -
You can gift a Steam game to an email address, which will generate an activation link in a message sent to that address. It's not tied to an account, and usually used to gift a game to people who don't have Steam or whom you're not already Steam friends with.
-
I know the difference between buying a game for yourself and as a gift. You still don't get it? He's offering a 15 dollar game for a 30 dollar game (AC2). And the only way to give the game to him is to buy it since he can't gift a game he already purchased for himself in the past (which means he will have to spend 30 bucks in return for portal 1). Even if he sends the game to email, it'll still cost him 30 bucks (unless he bought the game when it was on sale as a gift but never gifted to anyone). So if the person really wants portal 1, they can just spend 15 dollars and buy it for himself rather than spending 30 bucks.

Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
That is a valid point. Assassin's Creed II is still twice as much as Portal 1 and in my opinion it is a very bad trade. Portal 1 is a really short game and Assassin's Creed II is literally a Third-Person RPG. They aren't worth a direct trade for each other. If you talking about Mass Effect 2 or Black Ops, then maybe... -
The game is not tied to my account. I already have Portal 1, but I have extra copies that I can gift to someones steam account. I'm not looking for someone to buy it and then gift it to me and I also didnt realize that AC2 was double the price portal 1. What I'm basically looking for is a trade. I'm sure someone has an extra game that they probably already have and are looking to do the same.
