Hey, I was wondering if anyone could shed some insight into this problem!

Here is the situation: When I host games on wc3 battlenet on my n80vn laptop, other players in game get a few seconds of lag fairly often. The lag is described as a pause for a few seconds then rapid fast forward of the game (To catch up with the few seconds of lag I assume?) BUT when I'm hosting the same game on my f3sv laptop, there is no lag and the game runs smoothly.

Anybody have any ideas why this is happening? I am running both laptops over wireless (WRT54GL with DD-WRT firmware). Specs for laptops in my signature if needed.

Might be a port issue. Are you using similar port options to manage I/O connections?

I was using the same ports for both laptops before but realized I couldn't host on one of them because of the same ports so I ended up changing one of them to 6113 instead of the regular 6112. I was able to host on both laptops at that point but the lag is still shown on the n80vn.

I'm pretty sure it's not a question of hardware, because lag when hosting games is usually due to some connection problem on the host's end. Not like WC3 is a very demanding game anyways >_>

For me, I've found that running any other internet service or such can significantly increase lag even if the amount of bandwith used is insignificant to your total.

Basically, turn off any torrents you may or may not be running, don't try to download anything, kick off any users on the network who may be doing said above. That should fix most of the problems. Alternatively, the people in your games may just be too far away. Thats why most hosts ping everyone in their games first.

With LC games and such, expect <100 and with normal games, about <150 should be fine as long as there aren't any spikes.

When you're the host, you won't have delay, but when you join others' games, it depends on their connection, so try to join games from your country to minimize this lag.
