So, I have been trying to install Warcraft III on my new Vista laptop... Reign of Chaos install fine when I run it with Admin privileges and XP SP2 compatibility mode. However, trying to install the Frozen Throne doesn't work - the installer freezes about halfway, trying to install war3x.mpg... Tried running it many different ways, to no avail. Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Yea. Install it on another comp, patch it then just transfer the file over to your notebook. No installation required; just the file. If you need to patch it, just do it on your main computer and re-transfer all the files again, or you could just screw around with your registry to make it believe it's installed. I managed to do that once, but I can't remember the steps.

Huh, Frozen Throne installs fine on my computer; and I have the same version of Vista you do. How long did you wait before canceling the installation? Mine appeared to freeze halfway through, but when I left it on it would unfreeze a few minutes later telling me that Frozen Throne has finished installing.

Both installed fine for me on Vista x86 and x64. Also I did not have to put it in compatibility mode. Make sure you run the installer as an administrator.

I installed WC3 Frozen Throne just fine for both x86 and x64 machine. I don't even have to elevate the installer and run in compatibility mode.

Make sure your frozen throne disk doesn't have a logo like this on it:

Well, I wish it was that easy for me :) I read that I am not the only one with the problem that when installing Frozen Throne it stops at the same place. Believe me, first thing I thought was that it was scratched, however it installs just fine in XP.

Cathy, can you clarify what you say a bit? Can I just copy the whole Program Files/Warcraft III directory from my XP machine, and it would work? I would imagine that it needs registry entires besides just the files.

Yes. Do that. Works for me everytime; just copy&paste and make a shortcut.

    No need for registry modifications.

Ok I had the same problem as you scout. I just transfered warcraft 3 TFT from the computer with xp to the one with vista and it works like a charm. Very pleased now :), was worried for a sec. Thanks to the people who posted with solutions. You shouldn't have any more problems scout.
