wow, the next dow expansion's already here, huh? that was fast
-
Yep, it does have the full Dark Eldar race. The Sisters of Battle show up in the intro too - haven't checked if they're playable in the demo yet though. New races are always a good thing!
The Dark Eldar race seems at first glance (i.e. 10 min of playthrough), to be pretty good against infantry but a bit weaker against vehicles and mechs...though there were some EMP-type abilities...
Their own vehicles are incredibly fast though.
Is it just me, or maybe when I last played this I was on my desktop, but does the playable screen seem to be even smaller than before? (or maybe I've just gotten used to Supreme Commander)...
The menu bars at the top, combined with the huge unit interface taking up the bottom 1/3 of the screen, really means you only have 1/2 your screen to actually see the action (1440x900)... Then, I seem to recall you could unzoom a bit more than you could here too... but that may just be my faulty memory. It's not quite as bad as Universe at War, where all you could see on your screen was the head of your huge walker and nothing else, but there are times where it comes close (i.e. some of those Dark Eldar buildings are really BIG)...
Still loads of fun though! -
I have bought the past Game and 2 expansions.
It's seriously time for the second game.
Tyranids?
At least the games dont cost 3000$ to play like the tabletop.
Thank god I don't tabletop. :O! -
Won't bother getting it, hated Dark Crusade. Only play Winter Assault online now, nice small community and you get to know everyone.
-
I like small communites. Everyone's just so much more nicer.
-
the current game engine cannot "do justice" to the tyranids since its only meant to do arms and legs, not 2 pairs of arms and legs. full dark eldar race tho, they are very dark and hellish, i like them. just dont have alot of unit choices i found. -
whens the full thing coming out>?
-
-
They like the 50$ they make for stand alone expansion packs.
It's sad that I may end up getting that game.
They are so fun... -
I don't understand why they don't launch the Tyranids race. Since Dawn of War every warhammer 40K fan is begging for them. Maybe they are being kept for Dawn of War II.
-
-
How would they balance the race against the others anyway? -
If we should believe them, what are all the Tyranid mods out there? mirages?
-
Wow this post made my day, I love Dawn of War
-
WOo!!! I'm almost done with Winter Assault and soon will finish Dark Crusade.
For some reason, the game doesn't properly support widescreen resolutions for me. Whenever I run the game at 1440x900 the UI is all jacked up and shifted improperly.
As a result, I just run the game at a 4:3 resolution like 1024x768 and live with the stretchyness.
Dawn of War!! WOO! -
Woo.. can't wait to try it out ! I love all the DOW 40K games, so I know i'm going to love this one, but that's if it'll ever DL!!
-
Even the Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle are being worked on by the mod community so really there is nothing new in Soul Storm. -
the sisters of battle models fro that mod look awesome, the textures are the most detailed ive ever seemed, my comp sh1ts its pants when i set texture to high on that demo. -
They didn't say Tyranids couldn't be done in the DoW engine, they said they couldn't be done as well as Relic wanted to.
There's a difference.
That said, it should be pretty obvious that they're *also* saving them for DoW2 just to have something new to offer.
As for Soulstorm, I'm not a huge fan of Dark Eldar... They seem like they're annoying to play (require insane micromanagement, and fragile as hell, with hardly any good anti-vehicle units), and equally annoying to play against.
SoB could be interesting though.
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War: Soulstorm Demo :)
