Following a certain leak site for a while now, all of the videos that I've seen for this game look just great. This is definatly the game that I've been waiting for. The RvR looks awesome, and the graphics look sick. I just saw a video for the coastline of an ocean, and the water looks freaking great.
I'm no fanboi by any means, and I was a huge fan of EQ and EQ2, I had my 2 year stint in WoW, and while some people say the graphics aren't as good in WoW as they are in AoC or in Vanguard, there is much to say about great polished graphics and great gameplay as opposed to "lifelike" graphics such as showcased in AoC ( that run bearable at best on some peoples machines ).

If you havent checked out the game yet, you can probably sniff around google and find where I'm getting my info from, you won't be dissapointed.

Looks like a downgrade from Lineage 2. (a 4-yr-old game)

I won't be pre-ordering... but I will find a friend who does grab it to show it to me and let me try it.

The graphics are just a little bit better than WoW, and light years below Conan and even Lineage 2. Note, this could be fine provided WH can deliver on its promises.

As it stands WH has its share of issues just like any other MMORPG. The question is how the devs deal with it.
One friend in a recent stress test just told me that melee damage dealers are owning everyone and everyone else might as well log out and start levelling "real" characters.
Again, this is beta, so its perfectly acceptable... but it is following every other MMO to a tee right now. (Lineage2 you were either a dagger or a corpse for awhile, and WoW's battles with "world of roguecraft" is now the stuff of MMO legends)

Conan performs just fine btw... you just have to tweak. The recent patch killed off a good portion of the memory-leak crash issues. Conan's flaws right now are due to class (frankly archetype) balance and endgame being a little more than a farm-fest.

No word on WH's endgame, but WH does seem to be failling into the same balance issues. (reroll to X class or be pointless)

Despite my doubts... I really hope WH is all it is hyped to be.

warhammer has a lot of potential. mythic (now owned by EA) put together one of the best PVP based mmos together already with dark age of camelot. i'm hoping they are able to do it again, but we'll see..

Hmm, I just looked at the official forums and some other mmo sites and people as of today are still heavily complaining about memory leak issues:

Issues it seems most high level players complain about:

    1) Memory Leaks/Perfomance

    2) Harvest points are static, never in a different place which makes them farmable.

    3) More diversity in armor

    4) Why does the sky almost never have clouds?

    5) UI needs to be better

    6) Horrible customer service.

    7) Horrible GMs

    8) Lack of communication

    9) A PvP system in a PVP game that seems less than half done.

    10) Lack of DX10 even though it has been heavily advertised for the game.

This is all from this thread: http://mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/191/view/forums/thread/191383

And Avery is easily the biggest AoC fanboy the community has seen. He bashed all the haters, made all sorts of guides, got invited to Oslo to see their studios among other things. I used to be in his guild as well until I decided to no longer play AoC. His two most recent threads I can remember are now this one and a Siege Battles Stink kind of thread.

On top of this you can find guilds who have been around for a bit going from AoC to other games or WAR. The Acolytes were an extremely large guild for Age of Conan and now they are preparing to lessen their AoC division and create a large WAR one instead. Lords of the Dead who have dominated most games they played like UO, Shadowbane, Dark Age of Camelot, Asheron's Call, really anything with PvP ( they were also featured in multiple mmo and gaming in general magazines for their history and dominance in game ) in it states flat out that AoC has been a stink fest for them and they are one of the first guilds with a tier 3 pvp set up. They wrote this on their WAR forums:

This was after their post :

And since Guild Beta has started and I have played against them a lot I would put two and two together and state they must be really enjoying it.

Wahad, the head start programs usually just mean you get to log in 3 days or so before the game comes out. Those days will be filled with patching, server crashes, patching, *****ing, patching, and more server crashes.

Yeah I pre-ordered AOC and payed $5 for the 3-day headstart. I ended up not having time to play the 3 days early but from what I read the servers were down for at least 24hrs out of the 72hrs and I think it was patched a couple of times. Also if I'm not mistaken (could be since I quit playing after about 10 days) it was implemented so badly they counted the $5 you paid in advance for extra time added on to the normal 30days included with the game so that the early people wouldn't feel cheated.

The problem with most "PvP' games is that most "PvP" players don't want to actually PvP. They want to do something that is guaranteed and without challenge.

In most other games, MOST "PvP" works like this:
They run in, kill someone at a massive 10 vs 1 advantage or something similar and then run away.

This is where PvP with a purpose comes into play. Running away does little good when the objective is to take or defend a city. You can 10 vs 1 someone, but assuming they brought a similar force, you have to wonder where the other 9 of his team are...

The problem with most other such games is balance. What some "seiges" ended up being in previous games was a 100 vs 10 blowout or worse.
(ever been at a "city raid" in WoW? Its a ton of max levels against the NPCs and a few people who even if they were 60 levels higher would be insta-gibbed by sheer numbers... the "raid" is pretty much guaranteed as there is no way the NPCs have even the slighest chance even if every awake member of the opposite side helps.)

If you can tell me, how does WH handle such problems? How do they make sure sides are at LEAST a challenge?

Beta isn't a good determination... once released, WH will have issues... like 50 to 1 ratios on one side on a server. How is this going to be handled?
Cross-server battlefields? NPCS vs players? (har)

What about politics? Lineage2 required some modifications so younger clans had even the slightest chance. What happens when one clan/guild owns the entire server? (it will happen, players have to see too much of a good thing before they decide it is)

PvP-only endgames have issues and the best games had BOTH PvP and PvE endgames.

Let me be clear... AoC has neither right now... so this is an honest question.

PS: go to the WoW forums and there are people there who cannot get WoW to work either.
The WoW client is the best part about the game and will nearly run on an etch-a-sketch.
There are clearly people playing some MMORPGs who should have their "computer user" license revoked.

Can we agree that determining how good a game is by the lowest-common-denominator of forum spam is not really wise?

Because once inside the city is is broken down into even sides and each "instance" counts towards the overall city rating. Win enough battles and you can take it over. The large warfare is getting to and through the city gates where population is uncapped. Once inside though it is smaller battles.

Nay, they won't be having NPCs vs players. What happens when one side outnumbers the other by a lot is they give small bonuses to experience and renown to entice players to join the smaller side. Servers in past games are capped based on overall population. Servers in WAR will be capped per each side. Order and Destruction each have a certain amount of caps. For example World of Warcraft ( random numbers ) caps out at 5,000 people logged in. This could lead to 4,000 Alliance and 1,000 Horde. In WAR if there is a 5,000 player cap it will be 2,500 cap for each side. You can look at Dark Age of Camelot for Mythic's past doing with realm imbalance and I imagine if it worked there it will work here too.

No one guild can own an entire server. While guilds can be pretty dominant a guild in WAR can only own one Keep. If there are something like 18 total Keeps and you can only own one, it is pretty impossible to own the entire server. WAR isn't a game where one guild is always trying to outdo another guild on your side. You pull together because if you don't then you will never access City Siege. You need others to pitch in to unlock it during the campaign.

Part of City Sieging is PVE. You kill players and move around but in the end you will need to complete Public Quests in order to be able to fight the city King or Leader, obviously a PVE fight. Everything you do in WAR contributes to the WAR effort. You can kill players in RvR or complete Public Quests. Your realm has to pull together to City Siege. RvR'ers and PVE'ers need each other.

If I didn't get to see things first hand I wouldn't be talking about it. When the NDA drops in a few weeks I will give you a review on the good and the bad of the game full with screenshots and videos. I am now well over 400 screens and 45 videos.

I'm in the Warhammer Online beta, and so far it's pretty good. Just getting into it now and they've relased Beta 3.2 (9.33gb), so I'm in the process of downloading it and waiting to play it. I'll be buying the game though I believe, unless something changes.

I'm still worried that my video card won't handle it (ATI Radeon Xpress 200M) Problem I have is also if it doesn't work to find out if I am able to update it. The laptop I'm using is rather old Toshiba Satellite L25-S1217, and if I am able to update how do I tell what specs for the upgrade?

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.

I don't understand why they'd want to pass on making Warhammer 40K online. Maybe it will be the sequel to Warhammer Online?

If you think AOC was ultraviolent...I'd love to see Warhammer 40K Online.

I believe it's being considered? At least the page for 40k online appears on IGN, the last time I checked.

EDIT: NVM the page doesn't exist anymore! What a disappointment!

It was because for all these years as a game, THQ has owned the rights to anything gaming related that is 40k. So a 40k Online has to be made by them currently ( and is in the works ), by one of the studios they purchased, Vigil Games.

Earliest you will get to see footage of the game is 2010 because they want to spend a lot of time making the character creation the best and most detailed creation for any MMORPG ever, or so they say.
