it is a great computer. it will be good for most games out there today, however, if you want max settings at a good framerate it probably wont be good for years to come. compared to everything else your graphics are a little on the weak side (they are still great though)

dont expect to run crysis max with max res and AA but most other games will run very smooth.

Thanks alot for the info man, yeah i think I'll be satisfied with her. Do you think the specs to price are good, bad, etc?

i think you got a good buy.
afaik dv laptops have some very good screens. just dont expect to play some games at native res and get decent frame rates.
i would replace that 750gb 5400rpm hdd asap though, or put it in your odd and make your dvd player an external one.

Actually, the dv7 probably has a second HDD bay. I would check if you can have two HDDs in the dv7. If you can add a second drive, i'd check what you need (caddy/cable maybe) then add a nice 120GB SSD for the OS and use that 5400RPM drive for data.

Good balance between price and specs in any case.

Thanks for the help, do you know the best place to get a SSD would be? I'm on somewhat of a budget, and really don't want to get it unless I will have noticeable difference in performance while playing high res games or downloading large torrents etc. Let me know. Thanks!

If you indeed got dual hdd capabilities i the Dv7, i would go for a small 64gb ssd for Windows, and keep the other HDD for your games.
Or replace them both if the budget allows, but a newish small ssd nomnoms regular HDDs for a midnight snack.

You wont be able to play with all the eye candy on 1920x1080 with a 6770m, but my 6970m wont do it either.
At least we can game on the go. :D

Samsung 470 Series SSD 64gb is really good, and its cheapish too. :D
Price hovers around the 100 USD range.

Cool yeah that's the one I was thinking too. How hard its it to put one in? Just pop off the bottom cover and it slides in pretty much? Are they universal? Thanks again

Question about notebookcheck.net. When you see the fps at which certain games run on for the video card how do you know at what resolution the tests were run?

There aren't any specifics on that on most tests, but usually they test it out on the highest resolutions that their test laptop can handle. 3d mark benchmarks usually have their resolutions specified.

It is only when they make a laptop review/graphics card review, they usually specify which game scenario and resolution they test their FPS on cards. For the higher end GPUs they even use desktop CPU's (on x7200 Clevos for example).

Review example: Review AMD Radeon HD 6990M Graphics Card
This is the most detailed review of a video card you will get from them.
