Just got the E1705 with the 7800 GO card and upgraded display panel (truebright). My display looks washed out. It does not crisp and vibrant like what I thought it should. All the games have a washed out look, BF2, COD2, Doom3, Quake4. I tried messing with the brightness, does not seem to help. Can someone give me some ideas where to start? Also what display driver should I download for the LCD display from the Dell website, it has a ton of drivers listed for the E1705. My monitor set up is listed for a defualt monitor.
Thanks!

Try adjusting the gamma in nvidias control panel.

One question:
Is it just the games that look washed out or Windows too? The reason why games may look washed out is because you dont play it on native resolution (1920*1200)... Try to run the games at that resolution, and the result will be incredible.
Hope this helps, let us know...

Desktop, games, applications all look washed out. I had a cheap Spectre LCD monitor that looked better the this, I have played all the games listed at the highest res avaiable 1900x1200, looks good, but still washed out. So far everyone that has seen my new toy have noticed how bad it looks, first word that comes out...it looks washed out...

Thats weird...
One suggestion: call Dell and ask for another laptop. I heard from Chaz and other reviewers that the screen of the Dell is great. It's crisp, bright and vivid. Your description however is totally different... so try to contact Dell. Hopefully you will get a new one...
Let us know how if you have called them,

I would like to try some updated video drivers. I have the 7800 card on the E1705, driver version is 78 or 79, I have seen some in the 80 something range. I tried to install some drivers from a link on this site and I got a message that said no component exists for thr drivers you are installing. Am I stuck with the Dell drivers?

Definately contact dell. My screen as well as many other's on here with E1705 is absolutly beautiful, so Iwould contact Dell and get it replaced.

I noticed the same thing and don't think an RMA is going to fix it. I was unhappy with the brightness level of the UWXGA screen on the E1705. Even max brightness was unsatisfactory for me. I suspect it has something to do with the increased resolution and perhaps more DPI (smaller pixels). Asus seems to be pushing lower res screens for this very reason.

Ok...so I contacted Dell support. The tech wanted me to mail them the laptop for diagnose. I said no way, I just got the laptop last Thursday. He gave me a case number and told me to call customer service. There is no customer service at Dell, only drones that read service manuels and reply by looking up the answer. I'm waiting for a supervisor to call me back, if one exists. What else could I do?

Get your money back and get something else.
What do you expect a supervisor to do? If you don't send it to them so they can take a look, he'll pretty much just be able to read the service manual to you again....but in better English. -
I would be happy to get my money back, I have to pay for shipping and take a 10% loss over the total purchase price.
