Have you guys seen the screenshot of the line of code that reads 'This is PC only, who cares'?

I hope that's someone joking around but, if not, man. Wow.

Odds are these were turned off as they didn't bother to put in the time to optimize PC code to make it work right.

Once again, console and PC markets are completely different groups of gamers.
While their is some crossover, the PC gamers do not need training wheels like their console gamers.
(they also don't need safety helmets to play like the console crowd)

They didn't have to remove the eye candy, just label it separately.
    (Example: Jawdropping-but-resource-intensive mode.)

Either take care of the community, or don't bother wasting development resources, or better yet... farm it out to someone who has a clue.

The PC community made a fairly decent but nerfed-for-console Skyrim into a godly game with next-gen graphics, an updated and better interface and fixed most all the bugs Bethesda couldn't within their development timeframe.
(Kudos to Bethesda for at least trying, and then encouraging the mods that followed.)

Funny thing is... this guy isn't really modding anything. He is simply turning features in the existing code back on that he thought were missing.
Just wait until the PC community starts truly modding.

This makes me more and more unsure about GTA V performance on PC...
(Although GTA V was made on MP3 engine, which apparently ran pretty good on a PC).

Except the features are complete and the performance impact is minor.

This seems to be a matter of opinion... some report performance hits from -15fps to insta-slideshow, others report no noticeable hit or even better performance.
Remember, with a PC, not all configurations are the same.

I suppose we can put on our tinfoil hats and assume Ubi is intentionally nerfing with the hopes of not massively eclipsing the new consoles.
The thing is... the new consoles are just low-mid PCs.
Why remove something if it works? Programmers are lazy. They are not removing something if they don't have to.

i've got this mod running and playing the game at 1080p30 just cos and there's a few cool effects but me thinks the screenshots have sweetfx installed. i need more time to see if the stuttering is gone or not.

Already pushed out to PCs, you can tell if on the main menu it says v1.03.xxxx in the bottom right corner. Gameplay felt a bit more smooth, and GPUs now run about 5C cooler, so definitely an improvement.

Maybe 5 more frames? Tbh I was too busy playing to notice. :p

But I do think the frames are more consistent now, so the game as whole feels smoother without much of the jerkiness.

Great, thanks for the link buddy. I'm going to quickly download and try it now.

    UPDATE

Yeah definite improvement. It's still a system killer but they've fixed the stutters and the odd frame rate dips from driving have gone. Nice

I've noticed that since after the update the game uses ALOT less RAM. As in the vicinity of 5GB !

My word, those temps at that clock speed on that GPU... I want.

Anyway, I also noticed you using less vRAM too. I think this game had a case of port-itis like Ghosts before it. You don't simply jump from no game using more than 2GB of RAM to freaking 6GB taken up for nothing. Either way, seems like it's being slowly fixed at least. I suggest you get that "mod" that unlocks E3 2012's visuals; it may even improve your framerate further.

Oh take those temps with a grain of salt. Normally they are around 73 when things get serious under those clocks which still isn't bad.
I have tried that mod and like it. It does actually perform better but I'm just waiting for them to ease up on the DOF a little bit more.

seems like the patch doesnt fix enough of the problems for me to warrant a reinstall. also the "mod" made by TheWorse from guru3d.com, is not completely compatible with the new patch.

ubisoft also made a statement for the said "mod"

^well of course they would say that, and I can't belive they actually fell for the "Modders are usually creative and passionate players..." excuse which someone else basically said that's what the PR team would use (was it TotalBiscuit?)

Yeah, memory leakage is less now, uses about 1GB less ram for me. GPUs also seem to run much cooler which is nice.

    workaround for mod

In case you’re wondering, this patch also breaks compatibility with TheWorse’s mod, however there is a workaround. Here is what you have to do in order to re-enable TheWorse’s mod with this latest version of Watch_Dogs (or you can downloaded an updated version that Guru3D’s member ‘SoloCreep ‘ created from here). Kudos to Steam’s member ‘Elvis II’ for the guide.

“The mod uses the same method that Ubisoft uses to patch their games. It was always inevitable that an official patch would overwrite the mod files. The mod still works, you just have to unpack the files and repack them with the new patch.dat.”

We strongly suggest disabling auto-updates from UPLAY at this point. Those of you we’re experiencing worse performance can disable auto-updates and then delete both patch.dat and patch.fat. By doing this, you’ll be reverting back to the vanilla version.

I tried it and it improved performance by reducing stuttering, especially while driving and it looks a lot better.
