    Hey guys!

I recently dug up my cop of Emperor: Battle for Dune and I've been itching to play it. So I installed it on my Dell Latitude E6400 running the RC of Windows 7. It installed fine and starts up. However, during gameplay during intense firefights and such the game will lag a bit. Obviously I don't think it's due to the game being too demanding since this game is like 6+ years old. I think it has to do with the CD/DVD drive, since every time the game hits a snag the drive spins up quite fast. So...in order to bypass this situation I obtained some iso images of each of the discs required to play the game. I thought by mounting the virtual images directly from the harddrive instead of the CD/DVD drive, the lag issue might go away. However, I was not able to bypass the Securerom DRM. I used MagicISO and PowerISO. I believe Daemon Tools is able to do what I need, however it doesn't run on Windows 7.

What do you guys think I should do?

If you have legally purchased the game, I don't see anything wrong with cracking it...

Go to a crack site and find a cracked EXE that doesn't require the CD ROM.

The issue being that since the game is so old...there aren't any cracks to be found. And the few that I have tried, all didn't work either...

Are you playing it from the CD or have you installed the game? Normally the game use the CD only to verify the product, that is, when you launch the game, you should have no problems afterward with the CD drive.

Your right, I managed to get the game to run without a CD by mounting the iso images. However, the lagging issue still occurs. I'm pretty puzzled. Maybe it's just the drivers.

I have a similar problem where I will be playing WoW and all of a sudden my system totally freezes and there is a buzzing noise. It also happens when I run iTunes in the middle of a song. It goes away after a reformat, but always comes back.
