I've been playing Portal (orange box) for a little bit every now and then over the past couple weeks, and it's been acting very strangely.

When I was running vanilla 185.85 it would just randomly crash, and then not reload, but I was having that problems with a lot of games with that driver.

Then I switched to Dox 185.85, and all my other games ran excellent (including HL2 and CSS which run off the same engine). Portal ran fine for about 45 minutes and then error'd and I had to exit. The next time I tried to launch Portal, it would show the little valve intro video, but after that it would minimize itself, and then reopen itself, and minimize itself again each time opening in a different screen size/ratio, and eventually I'd have to control+alt+del and close it out.

It's been doing that ever since then. Heat's not an issue (I'm sure), and like I said before, all the other steam/valve games work fine so I don't think my drivers are defaulty... any other ideas?

Well try stock drivers to see if its a driver issue, that way you know the game is fine or not and its just your unoffical modified drivers.

If drivers dont work I would clean out steams cache and reinstall the game.

I think that may be because for some reason the game is trying to run an unsupported display config (like a res or refresh rate to high for your monitor).

Type dxdiag in the run bar and force a certain resolution and refresh rate config and see what happens.
