I recently received my new computer and installed TF2 on it, and I am able to get acceptable framerates, but have a weird lag problem.
When I connect to the servers I play on I have a ping ~50, but things do not move smoothly. If i watch people move they sort of jerk along instead of running smoothly. I was able to play TF2 fine without this problem on my old laptop and I cannot figure out what is causing this problem.

Here is some information on my connection, but it should be the same as my old computer.

Maybe your rates are messed up, giving you lots of choke and packet loss? Even simpler than that, some servers just have crappy connections or aren't powerful enough to host and what you're describing is unavoidable.

These are all servers I have played on with success just a day or two before on my previous laptop.

Again though, your rates could be messed up.

How would I go about checking that?

Type "net_graph 4" into the console.
There's a lot of factors that come into play and for me to type it all out would take a whole page so thankfully someone else has already done it. TF2 Network Graph - Valve Developer Community -

Forgive my ignorance, but what game is TF2? There are so many acronyms for games, it's hard to keep track of all of them, lol...
