Backstory: I picked up a gateway nx850/m680 for cheap. It has a MXM ati x700 64mb card that 'should' be upgradable. The nx860 and m685 use nvidia video cards without issue
Problem: After I swap the x700 for ether a 7950m or 8600m nothing is displayed on the screen, the backlight comes on, BUT it will display some of the time. The laptop will still boot into windows, and the 1/10 times that it does display on the laptop screen there aren't any issues/artifact.
Any ideas? I've been in contact with davyGT, but he is busy most of the time...

Where did you buy the 8600m?
Sure it's not faulty?
Have you tried an external monitor? -

Yeah, the 8400m and the 8600m had the faulty solder problem, nicknamed Bumpgate.

I'm trying to use the 7950gtx, I know that it is not faulty(yet), I have tested it in my other laptop and everything works... -

Is it possible to flash the BIOS from a gateway nx860/m685 onto your nx850/m680?
Does the ati x700 always work fine? -
the nx680 uses SATA rather than IDE, I'm not sure if it would work...
the x700 always works...
Weird vid card/bios issue....
