The 5650 in the envy 14 has a stock setting of 450/800.
AMD GPU Tool doesn't work (crashes it).
newer catalyst drivers don't work (don't support it so we're stuck at 8.713 which..I guess is 10.3a or 10.3b or a modified 10.3 or something)
HP why'd you set it at 450/800? The dv6t is at 550/800.

Have you tried MSI afterburner?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
no.
I'll try that out next.
here's the gpu-z if anyone is interested.

every time I hit apply in msi afterburner it resets back to 450 core and/or 800 memory

MahmoudDewy Gaming Laptops Master Race!
what about Rivatuner I use it for my HD4570 ????
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
haven't tried it yet.
I do know that amd gpu clock tool hard freezes the computer.
msi afterburner does nothing.
I somehow got the 10.6 alpha drivers to install. amd tool still hard freezes
msi afterburner still resets to 450/800 after changing. -
Is the AMD tool the same as ATI Tools? If not give that a try, just google it.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yeah it's the same. rivatuner...doesn't have overclocking options..
*gets cat 10.6 to install somehow via 10.3 hp --> 10.6 alpha --> 10.6 release*
well...even with the 10.6s amd gpu clock tool crashes.
msi afterburner...stil does nothing.
rivatuner....I can't figure out how to make it work (doesn't like the graphics drivers for some reason) -
There is an "ATi Tool" and "ATi Tray Tools" which are different programs. Have you tried ATi Tray Tools?

update:
msi afterburner worked after modifying something in the .cfg

Same thing on my Sony Vaio, it's underclocked by default to 450/790. I use AMD GPU Clock Tools v0.26 for my overclocking and it works fine. I can reach 650/950 with temps always under 70 degrees. My point is, maybe you're using the wrong version of AMD GPU Clock Tools for the 5650.
I though HP did support Ati Catalysts. But I know Sony doesn't. So try this link here for the install file of 10.6, should install fine, it did for me. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
I might be.
I have 0.9.26 so...who knows.
anyway catalyst 10.6 may be giving me a weird fps issue where it dips to 0 for a split second every 5-8 seconds -
Its the samething with the Sony Vaio Z and the M11x your just going to have to overclock it.
-
@MagusDraco ,
Did you check the laptop temps(both CPU and GPU) before and after overclock?
If so, I'm curious to know -
Why not flash the vBIOS?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
well with furmark running and at 585/885 (not doing xtreme burning oh hell no, just regular stability) I got up to 76 C. regular temps were around well...68-70 at stock in furmark I think (450/800)
starcraft 2 phase 1 on high (shadows set to low) at 550/800 gave me 78ish C for both cpu and gpu though fps was pretty constant at 60-70 besides the mothership's cloak screwing things up and dropping it to 50-60 (the mothership cloak screws everyone's stuff up, always, it's annoying like that)
there was at times a little stutter going on but that was happening at stock some too and I'm blaming how I had installed the catalyst 10.6 drivers (through the alpha, since doing it regularly just crashed things). I hope the 10.7s support intel switchable graphics
other people are having crashing issues if they up their memory at all (and sometimes upping their core) so...maybe I lucked out with a nice card...or I haven't OCd it long enough to crash.
and I have no clue how to begin to flash the vBIOS and at the moment don't want to screw this thing up. -
@MagusDraco,
Thanks for the info
Well this is annoying (Envy 14 Radeon 5650 mobility)
