Hey everyone. I'd like to get a laptop for college that performs similarly to my current desktop. It's a 3200+ Athlon XP, 1gig ddr ram, 128mb 6600gt AGP. I'm also looking for a very portable laptop. I am particularly interested in the Sony SZ. Is there a 14" laptop that can play games like Call of Duty 2 as well as my desktop? I run COD2 at 1280x1024 in DX7 and get around 100fps. Can a Sony SZ do that? or any other 14"?
Thanks

i dont think the sz can...it has the 7400 right?
probably the a8js with the 7700 -
you should be able to run it on Full graphics in direct x9 with the a8js.

Try the Compal HGL-30.

There are actually a lot of options - your desktop has a single-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 128MB AGP card. The Lenovo T61, HP dv2500t, and Dell Latitute D630 (with dedicated graphics options, of course), as well as the ASUS A8Js, Compal HGL-30, and Compal IFL-00 would all outperform your desktop, both in general use and games. Yes, even the comparatively "weak" Quadros in the Thinkpad and Latitude (based on the 8400M GS and GT, respectively) should outperform such an old, AGP-based graphics card. And more RAM and a dual-core processor to boot sure aren't going to hurt.

The ASUS A8sc with the 8600GS may be close to that as well.

Anything with 7600 go or better should perform at least as good as your desktop, I heard that the 8400 GT have this performance also, and direct x support

sesshomaru Suspended Disbelief!
I'd suggest the Compal IFL100, and the upcoming Asus F8.

A laptop with a Go 7600, or 8400M GT, should be about as powerful as your desktop card. Of course, desktop cards in general are faster than laptop cards, but the new architecture in the Geforce 7 and 8 series would close that gap pretty well, I'd imagine.
What 14" laptop will perform similarly to my current desktop?
