i just got my asus g1s in the mail yesterday and have been playing a lot of dod: source and WoW; i also have all the source games i.e. cs. i also ordered bf2 and am expecting it to arrive sometime early next week. a lot of my friends play these games and i've been having a blast catching up on years of lost gaming thanks to my crappy dell desktop.

anyway, i have some money left over from my savings and am wondering what game do you all think i should get? i am currently debating between bf 2142 and fear, but i want to broaden my selection of games. i'm not a big fan of rts or sim games, so i'm looking for a good fps or rpg. naturally, i would get oblivion, but i already have played too much of it on my 360.

however, just because i'm not a big rts fan, i would love to get into something good for a n00b like me. i tried playing an intense coh game at my friend's house and it was a bit insane for me. i don't like the idea of spending so much time training a unit and have it blown away by a sherman a minute later.

so, basically i'm just wondering what games you guys suggest i check out? i'm open to any suggestions: fps, rpg, rts, sim, whatever.

If you want to jsut play online then get Fear Combat( FREE). Its a free mulitplayer version of FEAR. You have to register to get a FREE cd-key. Then use the money to buy Bf2142(i personlly have bf2 and love the mods-i just downloaded Project Reality .607 beta[1.7gb file])

nice, i've heard so many positive things about coh. my question to you is this: how steep is the learning curve for an rts novice?

single player is pretty cool, multiplayer lacks a bit...coh is not that interesting to play imo

learning curve is not any different than other rts

dl the demo if you want to see how it plays

As RTS goes, the latest Command & Conquer is fun and fast-paced. If it's too expensive for you to want to check out just yet since it's brand new, look out for the last one or two - Red Alert 2 or Command & Conquer Generals. Both of these are great RTS', and Red Alert 2 is packed with a sense of fun and some good old OTT humour.

FEAR is a must, if you're into shooters, and yeah battlefield 2142 is good but B2 is far better and more fun if you ask me( i have them both). if you havn't played half-life 2, then grab the chistmas collection, it comes with half-life(terrific game, dated graphics though), HL2, HL2:death match HL2:episode one, and it's available now for a budget price.

well to be honest, you can download fear for the single player and the multiplayer is completely free (it's not that great, only the single player is good)

^^ the single players is crap compared to the multiplayer IMO. I would pick up Quake 4, if you want a deep story line. Also, Halo 2 is out. And Battlefield 2, and 2142. those are the only games I play currently.

i would say definitely dl FEAR combat first. thats a great start.

bf2 and bf2142 are both solid. counter strike source is awesome.

if you want a single player game, go with half life 2 and hl2:ep1 to start with.
