It's the next generation of Intel graphics after 4500MHD. It's about twice as fast as 4500MHD. Great for office and some multimedia stuff, but still not gaming capable. No expresscard slot on the L650 either so can't do a DIY ViDock.

Oh really? I won't be playing many games anyway, nothing more than the old GTA games (pre GTA IV), Garry's Mod, N64/PS1 emulators maybe and I understand the 4500MHD can play all of those with no problems?

The laptop itself is good though for £450 though isn't it? Newer CPU than any Pentium Dual Core/Core2Duo CPUs and DDR3 RAM

Go dedicated graphics if you got the money.

Integrated Graphics will only get you through the first steps of some low-duty games. If you're upping to recent games like Mass Effect 2 or something along that line then go for dedicated/discrete graphics from ATI or Nvidia. You can get good gaming laptops for $1000+ but for that same price, you can get an awesome gaming desktop which would most likely have twice the tech the laptop has. I ordered a decent gpu (Ati 5650) but it won't be super top notch graphics. However, it can play the modern games and for that, i don't really mind.

    Thanks for the replies.

I do have the money for dedicated graphics, but like I said in my first post, I don't car about the latest games, and I don't really think it's worth the money to buy one

Also, battery life is quite important, and a dedicated GPU would use it up a lot quicker wouldn't it?

Is this GPU definitely better than the 4500MHD though, it's not older is it?

I'm wondering why you made a post in a "gaming" forum if you didn't care about games. You're obviously somewhat interested, and why not buy a machine that is capable all of your current and potential future needs.

Why did I make a post in the gaming forum?

Uhhh, maybe because I wanted to know what graphics card it was, as I thought Intel GMA HD was just a generic name for onboard Intel GPUs, and this forum is for talk about games and mobile graphics cards.

Like I said, I play a few games like San Andreas occasionally but they certainly don't require dedicated graphics cards. If I played games like GTA IV and Crysis I would have said, and I wouldn't be considering this laptop. Try reading someone's post before you comment next time...

Anyway, I'm sure you're just trying to bring up the topic of gaming and onboard GPUs, because for some reason everyone on these forums love to moan about them, but I'm really not interested. I have the answer I created this thread for.

    Thanks.

Sorry, I failed to comprehend someone who doesn't give a rats behind about graphics or gaming, but wonders about his GPU and if it's better than something else. But hey! Thanks for the rude response!

We'll definitely miss you around here then.

Yeah, I wonder if it's better than something else because as bad as onboard graphics are, would you want a card that's a year old ON TOP OF being rubbish, or would you at least want the newest model?

This thread is for gaming AND graphics cards. My question was graphics card related, not games related.

Just remember, the Gaming section isn't meant specifically for games, it's also about GPU's as well.

Since the topic stated by the OP is in fact about GPU's, posting anywhere else would result in the thread being moved here. Just because he/she does not share the same view point as you about games, doesn't mean he/she should not post here. :)

Only under use would the GPU use a lot more battery life (at least this is my experience, I could very well be wrong).

And as stated by nando4, the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD is about twice as fast as the 4500MHD. So yes, definitely better.

Most dedicated graphics cards have options to switch descrete video settings.

Actually that is not true. Most notebooks with dedicated cards DO NOT have options to switch to discrete video cards at this time.

    Thanks for the replies.

I'm very happy with the Intel GMA HD, and if any games come out that I need to play (which aren't on the 360), I'll probably build a gaming desktop anyway.

    Thanks again :)
