medieval total war 2 --- 1440x900 (highest I can use) high settings, 2xAA, huge armies, runs great, slows down a bit when huge armies meet in a narrow space like the city gate.
Doom 3 --- 1440x900, high settings, runs great
    C&C3 --- 1440x900 high settings, runs great.

i have a macbook pro with 128Mb vram and used Windows XP

as for C&C3- you should be able to play it at high settings, possibly not at 1680x1050. midrange cards are meant to game at lower resolutions. try 1280x800- in all honestly you probably won't mind the affects of interpolation because your screen resolution is pretty high in the first place.

also, should you happen to have a 720p HD TV, i would highly recommend hooking the laptop up to that for games and playing in 1280x720

games like doom 3 and quake 4, and the upcoming quake wars, will run basically maxed out. i would leave "ultra texture quality" unchecked. at our resolutions, it decreases performance without adding image quality.

any battlefield game will run at high settings. that includes everything from 1942 to 2142.

upcoming (or already released) ut3 engine games should run well. that includes ut3, rainbow six vegas, and gears of war. i think the newest splinter cell game (and certainly upcoming games) also run on that engine. for these games, you will run mostly medium settings.

rainbow six vegas, in particular, is performing much better new patches, as of 1.05 its doing ok. before it was a horrible hack job. i expect that positive trend to continue somewhat.

FEAR you can max out at 1280x800, or run with high settings at 1440x900.

Can't wait to play Doom 3. I was having FujitsuSimens Lifebook (which is great) with a basic graphic card before. The game played but very slow moving picture.

Need for Speed games + Underground, checked and you can play them,
no problems. But no point to play it on a max out resolution as it does not add
to much of the extra graphics.

I have an 60inch projector TV with two cristals which throw the
image on the screan. However can not play games on it as the max
resolutions i can get are 800 - XXX - which is the basic one and the
    colors are terrible.

you can try playing games in the native resolution of your laptop.

naive resolution is a major plus for image quality overall.

doom 3 and quake 4 will most likely play really well in 1680x1050, but i dont know about the others. 1280x800 is most liekly the sweet spot.
