If the game has fun online, that would be nice too.

The best racing games I have played are the collin McRae series. They are pretty realistic. But you have to like that type of racing cause you drive by yourself ... for me they are the best!

Gran Turismo 2- I use a playstation emulator. Graphics are way better on the laptop than on the tv set.

If you are a formula-1 fan, then Grand Prix 4 is a great game. As others mentioned I liked the GTA's too...they are quite awesome.

After the latest sony debacle, I'm not sure I am willing to give them any of my money. I really wanted to eventually get a ps 2 just so I could play tekken and GT, but now.... I just might not.

Need for Speed: Underground is really good and probably pretty cheap by now. Just stay away from Underground 2, it paled in comparison the the first one. NFS: Most Wanted will be out soon also and if you have a system that can handle it, it should be pretty cool.

Finally a thread, that deals with my favorite genre.
What type of games are you looking for?
Rally- Richard Burn Rally is the best, hands down. Then Colin Mcrae is good for all the cars it has.
Everything- TOCA Race Car 2 has every possiable genre.
Arcade - Need for Speed series
GT4 is a pretty good sim. Try it if you have a ps2 already.
I think Project Gotham, and Fornza Motorsport are the best for console. They are for the Xbox.
As for multiplayer, none of the rally games have multiplayer. It just won't work. The xbox games have xbox live. TOCA, and NFS series have pretty good multiplayer.

GT4 is a pretty good sim???^^^^ ahahahahahaha! you either haven't played it that often or aren't a good driver but GT4 is so much more realistic than anything available and anything that will be available until GT5, no other company will put in the time like Polyphony Digital will. Sony is by far the best company in console gaming without question, Microsoft is in second only due to shear buy out power.

I still respect Nintendo far more than Xbox, they are really trying to innovate with their next gen systems and so is Sony, Microsoft is trying so hard to be better than the others that they are losing the big picture,

Sony is a good company and i will always stand by their products, period. Look at all the Microsoft debacles! are you kidding me :) not many companies have made more mistakes in their products than microsoft, but that is expected from a company at the top of their game.

If you are really a racing enthusiast the obvious choice is GT4 any need for speed game is pretty terrible, another one i liked for PS2 though was R: Racing Evolution, very entertaining game, with pretty badass music.

I've always liked NFS: Hot Pursuit 2. It's better on a console, but still fun. ;)

Need For Speed: Most Wanted. You should check out the demo, its awesome. Combines the car modifications and stuff from the Underground series, with the racing style and cops from the Hot Pursuit series. There is no more of this "drift and drag" crap. Just pure racing.
