i know that at 15", the 8600m gt is the hands down winner.

at 17", the 7950gtx is the winner, but the 8700m gt has a wider feature set (but is weaker). the 7950gtx will be replaced soon with an 8800m card.

So basically what your saying is that when the 8800m
is released it will replace the 7950gtx as being the
    very best notebook graphic card.

Also how does everybody rate the 256MB 8600M GT
for running todays games on medium settings or higher?

depending on what you consider a notebook, yes, the 8800m, upon its release, will be the fastest notebook gpu. it will only be available in notebooks 17" and larger. some people abandom terms like laptop or notebook with 17"+ machines, instead opting for the term "desktop replacement"

8600m gt can run games like bf2142, FEAR, HL2, ect. flawlessly at high to maxed settings in 1440x900.

It can run rainbow six vegas really well in 1280x720, but vegas doesn't have support for many other resolutions so i don't know for certain yet how that is going to pan out. it still has some optimization work to do, as well.

ut3 and crysis should run medium to high settings depending on the resolution you use.

8600M GT should just todays games on high to max settings(depending on resolution), with the exception of Stalker, Call of Juarez and Lost Planet in which you have to settle with medium/high settings.

7950GTX hands down. The 8 series is gaining fast, though. The 8700 will be near equal, if not the same as the 7950 in terms of... "power" for lack of a better word.

call of juarez and lost planet are brand new. driver updates and patches will most likely improve performance with those games.

stalker, i heard, was just not very well optimized for the pc. dated graphics yet hefty system requirements....

point is, if you look in the direction of excellently coded software, you will get a lot more performance out of your hardware than otherwise.

The best GPU right now is the 7950 GTX card. It only fits in 17' notebooks however, and doesn't support Dx10 like the 8700M GT. Both cards are good for today's games, the 7950 seems to be a little more powerful though.

Little off-topic but if you plan to buy a high-end notebook soon be sure to do research about the notebooks chassis. Some chassis have greater chance for being upgradeable GPU and CPU wise in the future, but nothing is 100% even 50% certain. Among those are Clevo D900C and M570RU.

    regards,
