What are the chances that I'll be able to get a laptop that meets these specs and have in delivered to me before I leave to college on August 20th.

    1.Under $2,000
    2.Geforce 8700M GT Video Card

I know of only a few models that have the video card out now, the Toshiba Satellite one and the one Rock and a few companies share. I know this is just speculation, but do you think Sager/Asus/whoever will have a laptop like this before school starts? If not I'll have to settle with the 8600M GT's.

    Thanks in advance.

it wouldnt bee that hard to get a notebook with those requirements but u would just have to downgrade on some other things like: ram, cpu speed, hard drive size and os. u should definitely look into the asus G1s i think it is. u can build it urself and almost fully customizable.

    Zero? Hmmm...

Would that be the part about getting a laptop that has 8700, or just getting one under $2000? :(

I'm just wondering because I have seen laptops, like the Sager 2090 and the Asus G1S that has a notebook with 8600M GT for around $1600-1800. Hypothetically, a tad one-up of the graphics card shouldn't make the price jump up too much.

Oh I'm going up to Rensselaer btw ;)

You don't need a laptop for the first 2 weeks of college. In fact, I didn't need the one that I had hastily bought for my first year of college until four or five months in, and I was some sort of engineering major. I used the ones in the computer lab :)

So don't rush it, bide your time, and get a good lappy that you will be happy with down the road.

Coincidentally I was just thinking about this as well. My max budget is $2000 and I wanted to get a better card than the 8600M GT. I'm willing to get a 17", too, if it's within the budget. One can only hope...
