I just lowered the PCI-E frequency from 103mhz to 100mhz on my 8600M GT 512mb DDR2 card and enjoyed clocks of up to 525,1425(maxed in rivatuner) and 497 stable. Up from 506/1372/488 at 103mhz. CPU running stock 2.93ghz at both PCIE frequencies
Is downclocking the PCI-E frequency detrimental to the card, either performance or hardware wise?

hmmm it should run stock at 100 mhz anyways, it wont bother the card and i highly doubt the 8600m gt would benefit from a higher clocked express slot anyways so dont overclock it....there is also the myth that overclocking the pci express slot will help overclocks but i have yet to prove that.....keep it at 100 since thats what its suppose to be

How about lowering it further say to 95mhz could this damage the card and would the higher clocks have no effect in performance thanks to a lower pci-e?

edit: Just did it and was able to get 570/1425/500 stable, very interesting!

Leave it stock at 100mhz. Any changes you make to it could jeopardize system stability. There are no advantages to either lowering or raising the PCI-E frequency in most cases.
