I thought it was time for a poll about what brand of graphics card/integrated solution you would be looking to get in your next notebook based on the current situation. With ATI radically closing the performance gap in desktops (maybe notebooks also) and Nvidia having 'manufacturing' issues, what card would you like in your next notebook?

Well I just got my laptop with an nvidia graphics card and I am very happy with it. I have always liked ATI though for some reason and now they have really come around (almost back to the days when the desktop x1800 and x1900 were dominating the scene). I can't wait to see some of their high end laptop solutions.

    Larrabee?

For me, I'm not looking to upgrade until fall 2009 at the earliest. I've no idea what or who will offer the best overall laptop solution at that time, so I didn't vote.

Well, it'll be desktop for me, but I just refunded my NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT with an ATI Radeon HD 4850. I love it!

I told myself for the longest time that I was going to get an ATI card in my next laptop, but ended up getting an Nvidia. No problems so far, and it runs games very nice.

It'll most likely be two hd 4870 X2's, but who knows, my next card(s) might be the larrabee from intel if that actually shapes up by sometime in 2009, though I doubt that card will do very well, I think the concept they are using is very poor and will not work for graphics acceleration.

Im going with ATI dedicated just because they seem to be on fire lately. The HD 4870 wiped the floor with 9800gtx and with just 512mb of memory stands very close to the NVidia mothership x280. Check out the results here And it's 100 dollars cheaper. Theres talks already of getting the hd 4870 in a laptop and we still have no word on a laptop equipped with x280s.

And we all know the story between integreated intel 4500 vs HD 3200.

ATI just looks like a much better prospect @ this time.

On my next desktop, I'm looking to go with an ATI dedicated. Just to give it a shot since I've only used nVidia ones so far.

I have already got 2 notebooks with ATi dedicated GPUs. And one with a SiS integrated GPU. Next one will most probably be ATi too. But thats awhile away.

I'll be going back to Ati. I stopped using Nvidia a while back when I had an Ti4600 fail and the lifetime warranty wasn't honored (less than 1.5 years old). Switched to Ati for years, but then gave Nvidia another chance with my 8600GT GDDR3. Mistake.

Prob, won't go back to Nvidia with my own money.
Especially since the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.

No option for "I care more about how the specific card performs and the price than the brand"?

It all depends, I could see myself getting either brand right now.

ATI definitely - started in '88 with an EGA Wonder 480...

Besides - if they don;t have enough respect for ME, spending my hard-earned money for their product, to TELL ME *** is going on, then I don't have enough respect for them to give them my $$.

Now, I know there's alot of talking, and ALOT of it is PURE BS (since when is the inquirer where we check the pulse of the IT industry??_, but they haven;t come out and SAID *** the problem is - just denying this, and denying that.

Only problem with ATI, is their drivers never saw the evolution(s) that NVidia drivers always have. THey did way back in the Rage and early Radeon days, but that quickly ended.

I guess it's like trying to decide between a bullet to the head, and a grenade at your feet - either way you're scr3w3ed!

It's hard to be pro Nvidia, when they won't even tell the complete truth about what is going on with their GPU's, and leave all their supporters and customers in the dark.

Sucks to be an Nvidia customer right about now - I'd be REALLY ticked off.

I just wish ATI would get their butts in gear. Good job guys, your IGP is awesome. Now HURRY UP AND GIVE US A HIGH END! 3870 or 4870 or whatever, you are letting Nvidia walk all over you with their 8800m/9800m!

Sooo many ATI fans in the gaming sector. I just don't get it.

Guys, ATI sucks for gaming. Terrible driver support, terrible performance. I still can't believe that after 7 years now monitoring both and seeing all the issues ATI users have, they're still supporting their product.

    Truly Astounding.

Nvidia buyer for 7 years now.

Unless ATI begins offering high-end dedicated cards that compete with Nvidia's offerings I will continue to buy to Nvidia at least for my notebooks no matter the rumors. I will either get an extended warranty or buy a new computer before the warranty runs out if I'm scared its gonna burn up, I still bought a 360 even though I knew it would probably mal-function (just got #3 and not angry because they were all replaced under warranty with little hassle).

Might be, because ATI GPU's don't Chernobyl - run for a while and the WHOOOOSH! Night-night.

Me, I would HATE to be worried constantly about it going south, babying it, not using it to it's max because it's handicapped, and THEN have to go through all the BS of repairs, arguing, getting stuff fixed right, oh but you extended the warranty, and it was efective from the git-go, etc....

No thanks - I'd rather have peace and tranquility, at the expense of a few FPS. My choice was between about $1100-1300 for an XPS M1530 with an 8600M GT and a $749 Gateway M-6864FX with an ATI HD2600.

Although, that M1530 suuuuure is a sexy beast.....
