I'm looking very interested at the HP Pavilion dv5000z with 512 RAM, 128MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory, 60 gigs, and a AMD Turion 64 (1.8 ghz) I'm mainly going to use it to play Battlefront II, Halo 1, Day of Defeat and some strategy games (WCIII, Generals, etc.). Do you think I'll be able to play the games smoothly at Medium quality? If not, is there any suggestions to a better notebook priced 1000 dollars or less?:budget:

The X200M is a pretty weak GPU, although it may play all of those games on low settings.

I have a Compaq (look in my sig) and the specs are pretty close to yours. But I just have more ram and a slower CPU.

Of the games you pointed out, I have only tried Generals. It doesn’t run as well as my desktop, but it runs fine enough. But just remember that the X200M isn’t a powerhouse. I can play UT2K4 on it. But I'm getting about 20 or so FPS no matter how I adjust the settings. But it will play UT'99 PERFECT and it plays Quake3 with about 50-60FPS due to Vsync. I tried playing COD2 on my notebook and got around 13FPS, it was unplayable.

My only suggestion to you would be to order that computer with 256MB of ram, and then order a single stick of SO-DIMM 3200 1GB from newegg or monarch. Since it will be much cheaper! Playing games on 512MB of ram, when the video card uses 128MB of shared memory is just insane.

Also, when you get the laptop, install the ATI Omega drivers on it. It will help out a LOT!
