Okay, im thinking on getting the W7J... it has an NVidia 7400 Go, 128Mb dedicated (and can get 256Mb Virtual?). What games can i realistically expect to play?

Anyone have anything with a x1400, or a 7400 Go and can tell me some of the recent titles that you've played on it? or know that can be played?

(like, if you dont know for sure... i'd rather you say you think you can, but dont know... so i can have some concrete info here! :p)

I'm currently using a Go7400. Any games in particular you'd like to know about? So far, I am rather impressed with its performance, given its standings as a midrange card.

Umm, dont know... all i ever play is Warcraft III :p

But i was considering to buy Fable, and LOTR: middle-Earth RTS, and possibly Oblivion.

I'm fairly certain Oblivion is out of the question... but wondered on the other 2.

If anyone has any favorites they play on a 7400 Go though, a mention would be great :p

You could play Oblivion, you would just have to turn it down. the draw distances can be turned way down, as well as texture sizes and reflections, HDR ect. i'm sure you could play it, as long as you turn it down. i think i read about someone playing it with a 7400, let me see if i can find it...

EDIT: sorry, i cant find it, but the settings werent horrable, they would give you an idea of what it should look like.

Actually I have had quite a good experience with Oblivion on the Go7400 so far, see the post here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=45637&page=57

I have also run BattleFront 2 at 1440*900 at medium/high, and Half-Life 2 beautifully at 1280*800 it is beautiful. I will install other game(s) I have if requested.

U can play Oblivion at low settings with the res at bout 1024x768 or possibly 1280x768. According 2 chaz, Performance chips* (ati x1600/nvidia 7600...) can put their settings on medium. 4get bout desktop replacements.

Wow, that is alot better then i had expected. I had expected Half-Life2 and Oblivion to be No Go for sure!

You give me hope guys, you give me hope ;)

I guess my choice between the W7J and the W3J is clear now!!... W7J it is! (i'm failry certain!). since it can, apparently, play all i need for atleast a good year, maybe two.

[[On an unrelated note, i hope the W7J also comes with the same look as the W3J... and not some sissyMacbook look. :( i dont like that look, lol.]]

-P.S.: reading your other posting now chaz :)

Hey Chaz, is there any way you could test the Titan Quest Demo? I'm thinking about getting this game for when my M1210 arrives. Thanks.

You can check out the W7J at milestonepc.com or at proportable.com. It sort of does look like a macbook but it has this big latch/webcam thing going on. It's a little square-er, though, so I guess it's not as "sissy".

In your mind does the Go7400 rate higher than where it is placed now? Would the x1400 still beat it? Thanks Chaz.

Never used an X1400 so no comment there. However, I am impressed with the Go7400 so far. It is performing quite well.
Half-Life 2 plays at 1280x800 on maximum quite smootly.
I do indeed have BF2 and will install that later.

    OK, results:
Game runs great, was very playable throughout the Demo. You can't move the Shadows past low or the details past Medium without suffering a big performance hit, but don't worry it still looks great. I saw anywhere from 29-37 FPS, probably averaging around 32 or so. Only dipped below 29 once or twice when I ran into a lot of trees, although I don't think that affected the playability at all. Even in battles and when there was a lot of people around, the Go7400 ran it like a champ. Screenie:

I'm considering a dell m1210 or a sony sz model, both of which have the 7400 go ... however, I've heard the graphics performance on the m1210 is excellent and the sz is terrible. But they don't they have the same card? The m1210 has more dedicated memory I believe-- but would the 128MB version on the SZ really have such "terrible" performance?

I am only a casual gamer, but I would like the option to play some games on low settings & run vista beautifully for a few years.

Hmm...the 7400 GO in the M1210 has only 64 dedicated... and the SZ has 128 dedicated...How big is the difference between the two? Hopefully they aren't drastic....because from Chaz's post about his Oblivion experience, it seems good...yet it has 128 dedicated... can anyone tell me if there are clear difference in gameplay between the two?

The TurboCache feature on Nvidia cards works very well; I'd expect similar performance between the 64MB + 64MB and 128MB dedicated card. They score very close in 3DMark, ~2000.

excellent...I read in the M1210 review, that he was able to tweak it a little bit... how does one go about doing something like that? Is there a thread that I missed?...or am I just really really really lazy?....hmmm....

I'm thinking of bying a Dell M1210 with the GeForce 7400 card. I want to be able to use it for a very specific 3D application that has been confirmed to work on a Dell M1710 with GeForce 7900 and also on a computer with ATI Mobility Radeon X1600.

Now the question: Is there a great risk that the application will not work on a M1210? I'm not interested in performance, only if it will run at all. (The app will not run on a Latitude X1 with integrated graphics.)

Hmm, sounds like it may depend on what tech the program needs to run for us to determine if it'll work on the Dell M1210.

Basically, we need more info. :(

Don't quote me, i have no idea what program your talking about, but the 7400 is in a difference performance class completly the the go 7900. the go 7400 is meant to go in thin and light computers, the go 7900 is meant for cheaper desktop replacement latops. there will be a large performance difference, but i cant think of any program that won't run unless you have a high end card, (but in games, of course, you would have to turn the settings lower.) look here for more info : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568

Thanks for your replies! So what kind of programming "mistakes" would a developer need to do, to make it *not* work a 7400 GO? Is there always a way to make 3D software compatible with lower-end graphics cards?

As long as a card meets the requirements for a game, it can play. The Go7400 should be up to speed for a while.

I have the SZ. Got a Dell 1705 and gave the SZ to my wife (7400 wasn't cutting it for me).

It plays BF2 in low fairly well, some stuttering in busy areas. I do have 2gb of memory, however. BF2 is a memory hog. During the transition period between my SZ and my 1705, I played BF2 with only 1gb of memory in the SZ and it stuttered badly even at low settings.

I think Chaz answered all the other game questions. I've run just about everything I can find but Oblivion on it as I don't have the game yet.

If anyone is running WoW on one of the Go 7400 dedicated laptops could they give me a brief rundown on what settings it runs well at? I am close to buying a HP dv5000t (the price is just to good to pass up at costco) and want to play the game on the road. The screen is wonderful but I've heard different takes on the performance of the card. I plan on jamming it to the gills with good ram to increase performance.

    Thanks!

I dont know how you can only run BF2 on low with the 7400, when my desktop 256mb 6200 AGP4X, 768mb ram, and 2.4ghz P4 can run it on medium at a solid 30fps. I think there is something wrong with your system if its running that bad. Im expecting to get close to toping it out, minus AA/AF, at 1280x800 with my set up below.

i don't play BF2 or half life 2 at all, so i dont know if the 7400 could run games i would like to play. I plan to buy a sz and i'd like to play heroes of might and magic 5 or tomb raider legend (the last one). Is the 7400 enough ?
