I have a noob question, what is exactly is limewire? Is it true that almost 99.9% of the content is made up of viruses?

This is in the wrong forum, it should be in the Software forum, anyways
.
Limewire's a P2P file sharing program. It does have spyware, so I don't recommend it. -
It is a file sharing service, I would say most people use it to illegally download music, video and applications. Basically copyrighted material. Yes you can get virusus, most stuff not viruses
-
Not worth it. If you really want to get a game/music, get a part-time job.
-
I have part-time job, and I still don't have a lot of music and games...lol
Better watch out for RIAA and MPAA when you download copyrighted music and videos...
I believe LimeWire regularly gives out Pro version for free...(used to be), I got my own free copy...lol
Use some protections will ya?

you will spend about the same amount of time resolving limewire issues and worrying about the RIAA as you would if you just got a job.
-
In my post I tried to say what it was and what it is used for no judgment or encouragement. I know illegal activities are not supposed to be discussed. With that said is there any legitimate purpose for Limewire?
And yes you should buy your music but no DRM! -
If you want to get lots of NON-COPYRIGHT STUFF and other stuff, u might wanna check out azureus/torrents.
-
Instead of Limewire or Frostwire or any P2P FSP, just download Bit Comet or Azureus and then download torrents of music albums, movies, games, applications, etc. I regularly download torrents from mininova.org, torrentspy.com, and thepiratebay.org. However, I do NOT download anything on my new Asus G1s; I download stuff on my old desktop, put it on an external HDD, and then transfer it on over. I'm still afraid of getting any spyware and the like on my notebook, but if you are going to download files, i would go with torrents over p2p fsps anyday.
Oh, and I have a job, but with car insurance, gas, housing, food, and other necessary expenditures, it becomes increasingly difficult to pay for music and movies, which is exactly why I wholly push for online downloading for free. Music and movies are ridiculously overpriced and they should not even be. As a college student, I download often and proudly do so. I rarely have leftover money to pay for entertainment like music, movies, games, and software. Our capitalistic, consumerism-driven society is to blame for the escalating prices in the media industry. So, go ahead and download all you want. -

limewire is full of spyware, but not viruses. Limewire Pro is not free and has never been free, BUT you can download the free version of limwire and use it to download Limewire Pro for free. Kinda round about but the end product is the same.
-
I stopped using limewire-like P2P applications a long time ago (I.E. Before Napster died). If I really like a song I'll check and see if I can buy a DRM free version off of iTunes, I really like how they added that option.
For other NON PIRATED, NON ILLEGAL, NON COPYRIGHTED media (I hope I stressed that enough), BitTorrent is far superior to other P2P systems. -
i do recommend it, everone at my school uses it and they say its great. very little viruses.

Torrents aren't great for music. Music with limewire takes under 1 min to download. Torrents have a lag time but are definitely better for larger files (movies, games, programs). This is all legally of course
.
-
I am surprised no warnings from the mods, even I would understand a warning, legally of course.

oops, sorry, wrong section. I thought the gaming and graphics section included software applications.
Yeah, ok, I'm not going to use limewire due to computer spyware/viruses. Thanks everybody for your help. -
I use Frostwire, it's the open source version of Limewire, so the client doesn't contain any of the nasty surprises that Limewire does. You should check it out, I get all my music from it.
-
torrents are awsome for muzak, cuz everything is grouped together. You dont have to go hunt down every song from an album that way.
-
Who still uses Limewire? Bittorrent is the new "limewire."
-
I'd advise avoiding Limewire like the plague. It's terrible for music, and I've had terrible problems whenever I had it installed. If you really want to download, use a torrent program. Torrents allow you to download entire albums and in most cases discographies in one click. I'd much rather do that than just get random songs when typing in band names. Quite a bit of the time you'll get songs of either poor quality, or incorrectly tagged.
Or at least, I had that problem. -
i emphasize the superiority of torrents because you don't have to hunt down every single song off an album; in actuality, u simply type in an artist name and you can find discographies or whole albums. as for movies, torrents are the only way to go if you want to download a full-length divx rip of a dvd.
-
Also, there's HTTP for music. There's a lot of albums uploaded on free hosting sites like Megaupload and Rapidshare. You'll find limits, and sometimes it's a headache finding music since it gets deleted, but if you do find the album you're looking for, you can download really quickly. And if you have dynamic IPs, it's a lot easier to bypass download limits as it's tied to your IP address. Just an alternative to torrents. The easy way is to pay for it, but then again, that's why it's easy.

Where are the MODS?
-
Limewire is an application using java. -
Toorents will take over!
Thats how the World in Conflict beta s being distributed, if you have a key -
Downloading with torrents is way easier then downloading for Limewire/Frostwire. For torrents, you can download the whole music album rather then downloading it 1 by one on Limewire and Frostwire. Azureus I think is the most superior torrent downloader.

Mr._Kubelwagen More machine now than man
I'm Canadian, so the MPAA and RIAA doesn't really affect me. Up here, it's illegal to upload (share) files, but not illegal to download them. It's a nice caveat.
But seriously, where are the mods? I'm pretty sure this thread violates some sort of TOS of the forums.
