The last shooter I played on PC was Counter Strike and it wasn't to bad with mouse and keyboard (I think that was normal). But the new shooters like MW3 and BF3 since they are made for consols right? should I use a controller? Im sure Elder Scroll is definitely better with a controller but what about shooters?

racing games, sports games, 3rd person games, 2d scrollers are all better with controllers

first person games/shooters are better with mouse + keyboard

I have tried a controller for RAGE due to the racing section but my hand started cramping because i haven't used a controller for so many years.

The combination that works best for me (for every type of game) is trackball mouse ( logitech M570 is great) paired with either a wireless NumPad or gaming keypad like the Nostromo

Ill give you racing and sports, not sure about the other two though.

Also you can blame limited weapon selections on controllers

Plus I remember in doom and quake you had about 8 weapons at your disposal (but this was probably removed in current games to make it more realistic)

Elder Scroll is not better with game-pad. Precise aiming can be effortlessly done with a mouse.

No it was removed because of the limited buttons on the controller and you dont want to have to faff through moving through them one at a time.

That's why console shooters will have a 2 or 3 weapon system.

Anything requiring aiming is more accurate with a mouse, anything require lots of buttons is more convenient with the right mouse or combined with the keyboard.

Pretty much every online/multiplayer shooter is much better with a controller than keyboard and mouse. That's because it gives you a huge advantage against the other players. To get the upper hand on them you should use your controller to type in chat that you're using a controller. Doing so might remotely disable the other players' keyboards and they'll claim it's your fault and you owe them a new one. But you're good since they don't know where you live.

Let me first off say this is a matter of opinion. Saying game A is better because of M/K is subjective and not fact. That said, I like controllers however most (if not all) RTS and FPS IMO, are more accurate and much easier to maneuver with a M/K.

I play third person action games, Worms Reloaded, or 2D side scrollers with a controller. Everything else is on a M/KB.

I never use a controller for FPS games. I do use one for the Batman games and Assassin's Creed games. Other than those two game series, I think I use mouse/keyboard for everything.
