(Sorry if this is a repost, couldn't find my question through the search engine.)

I'm going to be ordering a Lenovo T420 soon, and I'm gonna be doing some light gaming. I would like to know which games it can run.

My system will be looking like this
    OS-- W7 Pro 64
    CPU-- Intel® Core™ i5-2520M Processor (3M Cache, 2.50 GHz)
    GPU-- Intel HD Graphics 3000
    Memory-- 8GB RAM

    1. Will this be an upgrade from the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 from my last laptop (T400)?

    2. At what level will it be able to run CS:Source, TF2, L4D?

    3. Can it run newer games at all such as Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, or Borderlands?

Do NOT buy any laptop with that gpu inside if you want to even lightly game. It will be a downgrade from your hd 3470.

EDIT: Oops didn't realize the "HD" word in the name. I thought he meant the intel x3100 which was terrible xD

Judging from reviews, the HD 3000 is between the Radeon 5470 and 64xx series in terms of capability, I'd estimate that it is about 3x as powerful as the Radeon 3470 in general terms and depending on the clock speed of the GPU. Pretty much any Source based game should run on just about highest settings @ 720p with no anti-aliasing. I can't speak for Borderlands, but I would assume you should be able to achieve medium level graphics settings with good framerate.

    Thanks for the responses guys!

I'm not really a huge gamer, so I never really have the need to buy a laptop with a good GPU just for newer games. I can survive with my CS:S lol. It's good to know that I can run CS on high instead of low with my ATI 3470 hah!

Btw, for those of you who have experience with the HD 3000, can it run BioShock at high settings? I've read/heard awesome reviews about itm and it's kind of the only game that I am dying to play other than my Steam collection.

I'm pretty confident that it can. I originally played Bioshock on a DDR2 8600M GT, which is probably slower than the HD 3000.

Still can play CS:S on my DDR2 9500M GS (which is basically the same as the 8600M GT w/o the defects :p). I find that my CPU is more of a limiting factor when I crank up the settings though, especially with a lot of players.

So the HD 3000 is close to the 8660m GT? Wow, quite a nice step up for intel.
