I'm going to buy Half Life The Orange Box and Company of Heroes because I'm sure they'll play well (on the Toshiba in my signature). But what about games like Bioshock, Supreme Commander, World in Conflict and Crysis?

Also, I'm wondering if The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion will be ok with a 4200rpm 200gb hard drive.

    Thanks.

An HD 2600 will play, to some degree, anything you want it to. There should be nothing at all to worry about.

Also, hard drive speed only affects loading times, not framerates.

The HD2600 in my Toshiba is clocked at 500mhz, with 400mhz memory. I'm not sure, but I think that means it's underclocked, and was wondering how capable these speeds made it compared to what you'd expect from a standard HD2600.

Well, assuming Oblivion does a lot of loading in the background, I'm wondering if the HDD speed could cause stuttering.

That stuttering should only occur when roaming the wilderness. I prefer THAT over the game pausing and a loading dialog displaying.

Well, I don't have experience with a 4200 RPM drive, but given your 3DMark scores, unmodded Oblivion should run perfectly. Once you dump 800 mods on there like me, it runs a teensy bit slower...and I really should uninstall Qarl's texture pack, if I can find out how. xD

You should be able to play all those games, not at high settings though.

It will play all of the games in the Orange Box pretty nicely... medium settings.

    UT3 Demo Benchmarks

    Oblivion runs at
    1280x800
    HDR
    Distant Buildings, Landscape, Trees
2/3 draw distance on trees & grass (I hate watching grass pop in, lose a few FPS)
    1/3 draw distance items
    2/5 draw distance characters

    Self Shadows off
    Shadows on Grass off

Runs 20-30 FPS when roaming in the wilderness, moreso if I stay in one place for awhile

    30-35+FPS anywhere else

    Hope this helps.

Pssshhh. I hit the FPS cap in the Testing Hall.

Oh, and I just taught my little brother how to get into the Testing Hall (coc testinghall) and I "forgot" to tell him how to get out.

EDIT: I run Oblivion at 1024 x 640 and I barely notice the jaggies. I run pretty smoothly in the Wilderness, with:

Distance settings at half (except for view distance which is at full)
    Distant xxxxxx on
    High textures
    High blood decals
    HDR
Window/Water reflections and water ripples on with normal water detail.

I've also got to note that I have Qarl's Texture Pack, (Reduced Maps - there's still an FPS hit even with reduced) Streamline (FPS smoothing forced off, otherwise I couldn't give you concrete video settings, OBSE, (obviously) The Unofficial Oblivion Patch, and many other mods that increase the load on the system. I don't have concrete FPS benchmarks, butit runs quite well with just a few loading time stutters.

I'd wager it will run them all nicely at High settings.
