omg I must have been 7 or 8, Space invaders and Asteroids appeared
and Tank Command, I put as much money as I could leech from my parents into those, then relatives got those pong consoles, which were sort of fun
The Vic20 was my first home computer, spent the year up to christmas checking out which computer I wanted from a monthly magazine, can't remember what it was called, like an early computer shopper/buyer
still remember the Oric1 in 1983 having 1mb Ram!!!
anyway early games, many typed in were my entry into gaming.
Now I can't get enough, or enough time -
I played since I can ever remember. I had an Atari 2600 when I was 6 years old. We eventually got an Intellivision. Then I got into computers at 12 years old with my Radio Shack MC-10, then later a Tandy Color Computer 2. Programmed games in BASIC. Then on to Amiga 500, and finally to PC.
Plus I grew up during the era when video game arcades were everywhere. My dad knew the owner of a local big arcade, and the owner always gave my dad tons of tokens. So we'd frequently spend a Saturday playing.
What really got me hooked though was in the 1990's. I always loved flying and flight combat games. I bought my first PC out of college in 1995 and the Jane's Combat Simulations got me hooked. Descent 2 and Starcraft are also partially responsible!
What I miss most were times of playing with friends. Being married, a couple kids, jobs, it's hard to get together very often to play with someone. I do occasionally online, but that's what really got me into it, as strange as it sounds, the social aspect. -
I grew up with Super Mario World for the SNES in 2nd grade, I believe 1998. Used to play that for hours on end. Other honorable mentions were Street Fighter 2, Skins Golf, and Road Rash for the PC.
-
The first game i was played was Super Mario, played at my uncles place. I was so addicted to it and eventually became so good at it i could finish whole game without losing a single life and with total count of lives to be 15, if i remember correctly.
Then after that i was introduced to the computer games when I started playing War3. I played it for good 3 years. Meantime i also played other games such as whole NFS and Prince of Persia series. After that I couldnt play games anymore because of the college studies.
I came back to gaming 2 months ago and really enjoyed WoW. I am leaving for time being but continue again soon -
-
My father's best friend got a pc in 1997 and he let me play f1 racing game. I became a fan of pc gaming.
-
Lets see, my first game would have been Jumpman on the PC. Awesome game, took many hours of my time
First online game would be both quake 1 and diablo 1. Especially the team fortress mod for quake, now i'm hooked on team fortress 2....go figure. -
I was addicted to arcade games like Street Fighter World Warrior and could beat it perfectly with no loses on a single credit. Then I got hooked on game boy games like super mario.
The game that started it all with the PC gaming for me was Tiberian Sun that some one recommended to me. I used to buy so many games that the people in the game store looked fed up of seeing me again. -

General video gaming as a kid?
Intellivision's Dungeons & Dragons
'Serious' computer gaming?
Seeing MYST & DOOM for the first time at a friend's house. -
My father used to go to computer conventions and bring back boxes of shareware DOS games on floppy disks.

N64 Mario64
Still play. Amazing game hehe.
Oh my first PC game was homeworld catacylsm, rayman the great escape, they were just awesome them two. -
My first gaming experience was on my uncle's old Packard Bell. 90MHz Pentium processor, 14" CRT and all that good stuff.
The first game I ever played was F-15 Strike Eagle III by MicroProse. A fantastic flight simulator by all accounts. In fact, flight sims were pretty much all I played for a number of years until I played Goldeneye on a friend's N64. Since then it's mostly been shooters for me.
-
I've had computer games for as long as I remember...
My first games were Pacman and Bookworm on the first PC we had in the house. Those were ancient! They ran on Floppy Disks(still have them actually >.>)
-
Pong and Arcades got me into gaming, especially Stargate Defender and Missile Command and here I am 30 years later and still gaming !
-
I got into gaming from my friends because most of them started to game before me. I started with Starcraft on the PC and Playstation.
-
For me it was Links Golf back in the early 90's. Then it was Flight Sim 4 and then Doom clinched it.

I had like a master system and atari as a kid but that was something my parents had and I just played it once in awhile.
Moved up to nintendo later in life and loved the mario games, duck hunt, punch out, etc.
What got me into it really bad though and made me start to buy systems/games was going to a friends house one day and seeing/playing super nintendo! Street Fighter 2, Mario Kart. It was like revolutionary at that time and really got me hooked.
From there I got a snes, a genisis, a sega cd, a dreamcast, a playtation, a saturn, an xbox, and finally a Wii (and a few hand helds here and there) but as an adult I much prefer and only seem to be interested in PC gaming, its just something about it.
Though since I built my own arcade, I do love my dreamcast & Wii and play Mame stuff as all of them are interfaced with the arcade controls. Esp if a friend is over the arcade is a big hit. -
Atari 2600...I was 9...Combat and Brain Games (with a keypad) came with the console that my brother and I got for Christmas...we saved our money mowing lawns all next summer to buy Asteroids...
Arcades and a Commodore 64 through most of high school...Commodore for sports games (One on One, Summer Games, Pitstop 2, Gamestar stuff), RPGs (Ultima, Questron, Bard's Tale, Warriors of Ras, Apshai), simulators (Silent Service, Destroyer, F-15 Strike Eagle, F-19 Stealth Fighter, Ace of Aces) and Jumpman/Jumpman Jr...
And the arcades when my friends and I had money...
We spent years waiting for the arcade experience to come home (Colecovision almost had it with Donkey Kong), and now I can play arcade games that look and sound just like the originals on a handheld PSP...NES with Super Mario Bros. finally got the arcade game down perfectly...

I remember the first game I ever played. Frogger on Atari. I was like 3-4yrs old. I remember it like yesterday, the room, the smell, everything...
I then got one, then a nintendo, super nintendo, then sega(I had like 4 segas because my brother always got mad at me when I beat him and would do something to the system...put gum in it, throw water in it, throw it...etc.) then n64, then sega saturn(which had that cool satellite deal where you could play all the games on ur tv...the best in gaming at the time), then dreamcast and playstation.
PS1 had some of the greatest games I remember playing... Resident evil, Need for Speed, Final Fantasy7..etc
Then I got a computer which I played different games like red alert, roller coaster tycoon lol, doom, diablo..etc
Then ps2 came out, and xbox shortly afterwards. then I started building my own computers. then xbox 360. and now...lol
So gaming for almost 20 years haha...thats pretty crazy, because Ive never really thought that much into it before. I love gaming. I love other things, but Ive been gaming my whole life. Its always been my favorite way to waste time...
cheers -
Its fun and relaxing.......the perfect way to chillafter a long day....... -
I still remember watching my dad play Prince of Persia on the PC(the one with the blocky graphics and 13 levels). I was about 6. The first game I played was Rayman (do not judge me!
) It was a edutainment game, though at that time, we just played it because it was a GAME.
The next game I remember playing was Age of Empires 1. At that time, the whole concept of civilization building and conquering your enemies was unheard of. So, we had absolutely no idea what to do. Hence, one day, my brother came to the living room where I was watching TV and cried, "I made a person cut wood!". We still didn't know that the "person" was called a villager at that time LOL. "Woah, I had to see this!" I still remember myself saying that. Looking back, I guess I was VERY noobish when it came to games. But after that incident, we became accustomed to the genre and started to explore other genres like FPS (Counterstrike), RTS (Red Alert 2) and MMORPGs (Flyff, MapleStory, Grando Espada:Sword of the New World)
My parents were really strict with my siblings and I when it came to games until it came to a point that we would only dream about owning a PS1 or PS2. In fact, we finally owned a PS1 about one or two years BEFORE the PS2 was to be released! That doesn't mean we didn't have fun with it though! A few years after that, we finally got a PS2. Now, we can only HOPE that the thought of buying a PS3 or XBox 360 would come floating into our parents' heads. -
The first 'real' game I can remember playing was Moonlander (the cartridge version lol) on the Vic-20 when I was about 6 or 7.
Then it was Mario Kart on the SNES, with the N64 getting me very hooked - the N64 with 4 controllers, a lot of beer, a Friday night and several poor aircraft apprentices was a GREAT way to spend and evening without costing a fortune (with plenty to brag about at work for a few days...lol)
Now? (several years later and a few career advancements - just means less time for fun!) when I get the chance its just COD4 or WOW online (COD4 moreso as its a no-brainer for the most part and we have some hilarious chats on Vent with my clan) or good old N64 games on Project64 (Windows) or Mupen on *nix (oh Mario 64 how you STILL rock my world....hehe)
-
for me it was commander keen and duke nukem 1
-
First games: LHX, Prince of Persia and Accolade Grand Prix, all played on a 8086 computer.
-
Started off with Nintendo, but once I started PC I couldent quit.
RA2, Sims 1, Painkiller, Doom, Duke Nukem, Micro Man, Jazz Jackrabit, Brutal Battle, Epic Pinball, Strike Squad, Dare to Dream, Doom 3, Half Life (series), Counter Strike, Soldier of Fortune, Warcraft, Command and Conquer, ahh too much goodness, the list goes on. -
I cant believe of how many other games I can think of that got me through the days... -
One of my most vivid memories of my childhood (7-9 years old) is falling asleep watching my dad play F/A-18 Hornet. We sunk many, many hours into that game.
What got you into gaming?
