I'm trying to get an idea of what my current desktop gpu is so I can compare it to some mobile ones. I current have an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT from 2007 (for reference: GeForce 8 Series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

What would this card be comparable to in terms of laptop gpu's from amd, ati, or nvidia?

for nvidia a comparable card would be a gtx 260m or better. A 9800m gtx is a little slower then the desktop 8800gt but kinda close to the same performance as well.

im not sure what would be comparable in the ati area but i think its a radeon 4850m or better.

In terms of the current generation, the GT 555M 192-bit and 6770M are in the same performance range as the 8800 GT.

mobile cards performance hasn't changed much (maybe 5~15% increase in performance for equivalent tiers each year), the only thing changed drastically is TDP efficiency. However many watts were needed to run the 8800GT, only half or maybe a quarter of that is needed to run an equivalent performance card.

My ATI HD4850m could just outperform my friend's desktop GeForce 8800GTX if that gives you any idea
