I know that the 8600m GT performs like 50% better than the gs. But price is a factor for me. And Im only looking to spend like 1500 for a laptop.

I dont want a dell, for obvious reasons. And the only other laptop with the 8600m gt under 1500 is the acer 5920 but it comes with the 1.5ghz processor. And i want a t7300 2.0ghz.

My question is. Are there any laptops that are 15.4", t7300, 1 or 2gb ram, 8600m gt ddr2 or ddr3, and a webcam/finger scanner id possible. All this for under 1500$?

Dell vostro/inspiron - meh i dont like dells
Acer 5920 - lower model is crappy, and higher model costs 1800$ :/
    Macbook Pro - $1800+
Asus G1S - $1750 (final price, i got a deal but its soo much!)
Asus F8's - not released yet (need laptop before 9/1)
    Sager 2090 - Not shipping yet :/
    Asus C90's - Maybe?

Are there any others??? Thanks for the help!

The Dell (even though you do not like Dells) would probably be your best (cheapest) option.

Im not sure what those obvious reasons are. The new inspirons and vostros are better looking (IMHO) than the Asuses and Sagers - and probably have better build quality.

Funny, by far the biggest complaint I've heard here at Dell is our shipping delays, not build quality. Once customers actually get their laptop, we never hear from them again..... haha.

Too busy sleeping with their new lappy.

The Dell Vostro is supposedly a solid laptop, and if you order over the phone you can get a great deal.

I'd say the Asus C90, I'm sure you could configure one for under $1500.

Your screens are crummy and there's headphone hiss. The screen is the reason I'm steering clear.

My screen is crummy? Really? Wow, never knew...
Actually my 1520 is pretty sweet, hasnt given me any problems. It seems like the first batch was the one with the most problems, I got mine after they'd been producing them for awhile and the only problem I had was the fact that Vista was on it.
Has an Asus S96j before that, and it was absolute crap. And since the C90s is from the same line (do-it-yourself Asus line), I'm sure the Dell is of better build quality.

Compal IFL90 / Sager 2090 would be your choice. $1400 or less. GDDR2 though.

And the C90 has practically no battery life...30 minutes? Don't forget the jet engine in the back...

30 minutes? No I've managed to get near 2 hour battery life on my c90 on power saving mode. New bios will also increase the battery life. Basically like he said if you want a cheaper laptop with the 8600 go for the c90 and the c90 will also support the ati 2600 sometime in the near future.

Ok, I still doubt he can make it to 1000 with a T7100 and a 8600M GT since the base price is $760

$1339 with exactly the same specs.

Sounds like you're shooting yourself in the foot by refusing to consider a dell.

    Basically.

The delays really are a pain in the ass though.

If you want a laptop that ships fast, but from a seller with a reputation for selling poor quality machines that are often broken on arrival, failing to fix the broken ones that get sent back, and completely ignoring customers that try to get their money back until they sue, be my guest and use http://www.cyberpowerpc.com .

Oh, and it'll still be a bit more expensive than the dells.

You have to use the $300 ($325 now I think) off coupon code. That'll get ya down to about $1k. The availability of these codes is what makes me say with 99% accuracy that Dell will be the most bang for your buck, and I think others would agree.

Dells are probably cheaper. I personally think the 1520's are ugly, but many people like them so its a personal preference. Also, the build quality on the 1501's was below par- I'm not sure if the 1520's have improved dramatically on that. I hear the build quality on the Sager NP2090 is excellent; I'll verify when I receive mine tomorrow. What made the choice for me was build quality, customer service quality (Dell's is notorious) and battery life (Sager has extended 9-cell battery standard). However, I can also see why some people picked the Dell, espcially since it can be quite cheap with coupons.

Well, I don't know about you guys but when I used the coupon the price went down less than $60 (The laptop was already 200 off i guess) so the price was around 1285 or so.

I'd be tempted to pick up the vostro 1500 instead.

The newer inspirons and vostros, despite their bulkiness, are rock solid and every bit as good as anything, and I mean, anything out there at any price.

I'm just talking about build quality.

Right on the front page of slickdeals, there is an excellent deal for a Vostro 1500.

All of this for $599. I know you said you wanted an 8600gt, so you can add that for $100.
So for $699, you can get a decently configured dell.

This is your choice, but I would personally just stick with the 1.6GHz processor that comes with it. Unless you plan on doing very processor intensive tasks (multimedia encoding, etc.), you won't really notice a difference. (it's only .4GHz difference). Is $195 expense worth it for about a 20% improvement in processor speed?

Also, upgrade your ram aftermarket. Ram is very cheap these days. I ended up getting 2 gigs for ~$50.

Anyways, heres a direct link to the lappy.
