I'm trying to game against my brother online a little, but his machine is pretty basic and can't run newer games hardly at all. He can play the original Far Cry as long as the graphics are turned WAAYY down, but we're having all sorts of problems getting a death match off the ground.
So basically, we're looking for something that's EASY to set up, will be playable on his machine at low settings, and fun. Recommendations?

Old School Counter Strike 1.6 or Half Life Deathmath. I haven't played War Rock yet, but it looks very interesting.

try searching for Softnyx's WolfTeam, its free, and is super easy to setup...my roommate always plays it on his crappy machine....i myself play COD4, so I have no idea how well this game plays

Gunz is sort of free. I guess eventually you end up forking over money for the better med packs, or bumming them from friends that do buy game currency.
Unreal Tournament Edition is pretty old, but very fun! Not free, but you could probably find it for a very cheap price if you don't already have copies of it sitting around. If you ever purchased video cards in the past, they may have even came with a CD that had an OEM key on it.
Team Fortress 2 runs on fairly minimal system specs, maybe find some friends on Steam to gift it to you from their Orange Box?

Original Tribes was so godlike. Too bad it's been failing ever since.

UT99 doesn't even require a CDkey.
Also, Assault-cube is 100% free, and takes less than 5 min to d-load. Very very very low requirments. -
Combat Arms, definitely.
What is a good, easy to set up, non-demanding, free multiplayer FPS?
