Here is a video of Crysis (not mine) and the same thing happens to me when I join a map in Bad Company 2 for the first 20 seconds and then it's fine for the remaining time. What's happening?
YouTube - crysis problem ????
-
looks like some kinda internet problem to me. Have you tried turning off your firewall, opening all the ports, etc...
-
same sort of thing has happened on other games especially multiplayer. its a loss off connection from whoever is hosting the game.
-
Some people said it is the GPU running out of VRAM.

@Kain - Windows vista and Windows 7 both have built in throttling in reference to network. I posted about this in the m11x forums as I used to have the same issue with that machine. Feel free to google search "windows 7 network throttling".
Here is what you will most likely find.. and this is what I posted a long while back. (Remember to always back up your registry and understand the risk before making any modifications)
* Open regedit
* Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile
* There will be an entry for network performance throttling, default value is 10; set it to FFFFFFFF hex (willl look like 0xFFFFFFFF to the right of the entry) (you will see 2 values hex and decimal make sure you set the right one)
* Reboot
Also.. feel free to shoot out to the alienware m11x forums and search for the battlefield bad company 2 optimization thread. I created it and it has lots of great optimizations to get more FPS.
Best Wishes,

Thanks. Assuming it's "NetworkThrottlingIndex"?
-
As they say no one person is always right lol but I would have to be assuming that has nothing what so ever to do with your computer hardware but if its happening in two games, I would install some other games and see. Could be connection some how, looks more like a borked code in the game though, even if it was your connection the game wouldnt do that if it wasnt possible so its bad code some where in both games is what I think. I never had these problems though so take my ramble with grain of salt.
-
Yeah this happens to my system when it loads a new map. For the very first 5-8 seconds, the graphics are choppy then it becomes smooth. I'm assuming it's because of graphics being loaded into RAM/VRAM.

@Kain - please response once you have completed some of the optimization items and see if it doesn't improve game performance. Please also note that you are very close to the minimum system requirements (for BFBC2 anyway) so anything you can optimize to increase FPS will hopefully give you a better gaming experience.
Good Luck,

Okay, I tried that throttling tweak and it made my Internet a little weird. I have a 16 Mbps connection. YouTube 1080p videos seem to load a lot faster now but my download speeds (when I am downloading a file from a Web site) are slower. Downloading a driver from NVIDIA is around 1.5 MB/sec when I should be getting around 1.8-2 MB/sec. When I first boot up after the regedit, I went to NVIDIA to do a test download and I was getting 200 kb/sec! I canceled that download and tried a little later and now I am getting that 1.5 MB/sec. I know it was not the Web site because I also tried downloading iTunes from Apple and I was still getting 200 kb/sec.
As for Bad Company 2, the stuttering seems to last for less time now but is still there when I initially join a map. -
I'm getting that 200 kb/sec from NVIDIA again.
-
Okay, that 200 kb/sec was an ISP issue. Everything is back to normal speeds.
As for Bad Company 2, it is certainly stuttering for quite a bit less time than previously. That network tweak seemed to help but stuttering is not gone completely. -

@Kain - plz try the rest of the battlefield optimizations. Choose the ones that are right for you and then respond and let us know how it is going...

Lets see if that works for me.
BTW, nice guide. -
what's your ping in relation to the server?
-
I get this from time to time on both my desktop and laptop, which are both well equipped to play BFBC2. I always just attributed it to some sort of network/server problem and ignored it.
What is causing this in Battlefield: Bad Company 2?
