Just curious what coin someone would have to pony up for the most powerful 13" notebook for gaming? Preferably for sale in the US.

The LG P310 looks nice with the 9600m GT but it's only available in Europe.

I think the LG P310 with 9600m GT is only distributed in Poland so it is going to be hard to find. My P300 should be here Tuesday though :)

Yeah the LG P310 is still the most powerful 13.3" laptop with the 9600M GT.

After that comes the Asus f6v with an ATI HD4570, although that's a significant step down from a 9600M GT.

So for the US it's the F6v then?

I wonder why LG distributes notebooks only to Europe and the P310 to Poland only? Strange.

It is, AFAIK, still the LG P310.

FOR THE USA? P310 isn't available in the USA.

Yeah in the US I think it's the f6v. Mind you CAN get a P310 from Europe and have it shipped, many American users here on NBR have done that so perhaps check in the LG subforum for how they did it.

The f6v is your other option although its GPU is a step down from the P310 and its build quality is said to be not-so-good according to the review.

Another one that isn't available in the US would be the Fujitsu Amilo 3650 with the external Graphics Booster that's uses a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870.

TBH I'm not personally looking to buy one, just was curious. I just ordered a Lenovo U330 since it was in my price and performance range. But I know someone else that might be interested in a more powerful option.

Man, my collection is almost complete... I'm a notebookaholic, don't ask how I acquired all these, it just happened.

    17" - Gateway P7811FX / 9800m GTS
    15" - Compaq Presario CQ60 / 4500MHD
    15" - Dell Vostro 1500 / 8600m GT
    13" - Lenovo IdeaPad U330 / HD3450
    10" - Asus N10J / Atom / 9300m GS
    10" - Asus Eee 1000h / GMA 950
    09" - Asus Eee 900 / GMA 900

Now all I need is a 14" to make the collection complete!

But if there was a 13" with a 9800m GTS I'd probably sell all of these just for that.

A 13" with a 9800M GTS can also double as an Easy Bake Oven.

I said don't ask how. :) Each had their legitimate reasons, some work related, some personal, some school, and some impulse.

To make a long story short:

I bought the Vostro 1500 about two years ago before my first son was born because I had relinquished my other laptops to friends or family because I didn't have a need. And I needed something to use on our main floor because our desktop PCs were in our home office in our basement where the baby would never go.

I ended up with the N10J after being frustrated with the Eee 900 and 1000h since they weren't exactly what I wanted, although I wanted something very portable with a good keyboard but powerful enough for a handful of games. The 900 and 1000h are nice little machines, but the tiny keyboard and tiny SSD of the 900 led me to the 1000h, which had a hard drive and the Atom CPU instead of the Celeron, but the keyboard was still too tiny, so I ended up with the N10J. Probably the notebook I use the most! I bought it for use at work, but now I'm layed off so oh well.

The P7811FX ended up as my desktop replacement, because my desktop was having problems, but got it resolved, so it hasn't really replaced my desktop yet lol.

Compaq Presario CQ60 was an impulse buy. $350 at Best Buy and I had a $15% off discount at the time too, plus $20 in reward certificates that were expiring. So it cost me all of $275. It is my "beat me up" notebook, and has been my Windows 7 test machine.

My Lenovo IdeaPad U330 I just got today! Whee! It was through my school. The offered a $750 gift card towards the purchase of a new PC. So there you go.

Considering the huge array of notebooks, and my passion for gaming, I actually am starting a website to do some detailed gaming analysis on each machine to share with the world FWIW. It's in development ATM, and is called notebooknerd.com.

    That's quite the history!

I'm still a 22 year old kid in college, but I see myself becoming a notebook fanatic as well in the future.

You'll have to tell us how the U330 is treating you. It was definitely one of my options when I was considering a notebook, but the N10 won me over in portability which was the #1 factor this time around.

I look forward to seeing your site finished :D

Thanks. So far I like the U330. However it is looking like it you have to rely on Lenovo for the GPU driver updates! It uses something called PowerXpress which allows you to switch from ATI HD 3450 to Intel GMA 4500MHD on the fly.

Nice feature, but so far NO Mobility Radeon drivers from ATI support this. I tried just updating the drivers (not the whole suite), but it couldn't use them. I did find a beta Windows 7 Catalyst Control Center that I can use, but still have older drivers so don't know what's the point. We'll see.

Well, I acquired all my PC's while I was employed. Now that I'm unemployed I don't think I'll be acquiring any new hardware for a while. For gaming, my P7811FX with 9800m GTS and desktop with 8800 GT will have to suffice for the time being.

Although I never quite understood the reasoning behind anything bigger than a 17"?

I mean you can fit pretty much any CPU and GPU (and upgradable) along with dual HDD's in a 17". Anything bigger you might as well buy a Shuttle PC with a 19" monitor. It would probably consume less power and have better capability. I used to take my Shuttle PC when it was my gaming box along with a 15" LCD for LAN gaming until I got a decent laptop.
