I noticed that the new Toshiba Puma based laptops have the HD 3100 integrated graphics. I thought that the new Puma based notebooks all have the HD 3200. Did I miss something?

I assume it is a stripped down version of the HD3200, probably running at a lower speed or using fewer processing units. I can't find any data on Google about the card, maybe someone else can help out?

I would go for the HD3200, that is where all the hype stems from, though I am sure an HD3100 performs at least as well as the current IGPs from Intel and Nvidia.

I was doing some research on the Toshiba's because my brother is interested in the 14.1" model and it is now at Best Buy. Why would they use the HD3100 is what I'm curious about. If anyone else knows anything, more info would be appreciated.

Are you sure it's not a typo? Did you see that in the config panel of the laptop?

It's the lower end version of the HD 3200. It's based on the M780V chipset and from what I can tell it doesn't support sideport memory & doesn't have Avivo. Other than that it should be similar to the HD 3200. Why Toshiba used it instead...who knows but most likely because it is cheaper than the HD 3200.

Its definitely not a typo, I checked the direct x diagnostics and it said HD3100. Do you guys think it would be fine for a person who is not doing any gaming, just some audio editing and web surfing?

Yeah, it should be perfectly capable of running normal things and even play some older games.

I found a chart here where the HD 3100 is listed (but not all info is available). I would like to see benchmarks of both IGPs to check if the Toshiba models with the 3100 are worth it. If it's still comparing to a 8400 GS like the HD 3200 it'd be okay.
