    Hey,

I've a dell vostro 1400 with an nvidia 8400M GS gpu. It is one of the possibly faulty gpu's and I've already installed the dell bios update that supposed to reduce the risk of it failing.

Anyway, I keep get some wierd lines on my screen while playing COD 4 and the first thing that springs to mind is gpu failure. Unfortunately I can only find very basic symptoms online for gpu failure and they do sound similar. The image below shows what it looks like, occasionally it goes worse but I've not been able to get an image of it and my comp freezes up afterwards.

So, does anyone know if this means my gpu is failing or if it is likely to be something else?

I don't have any other graphics intensive applications on my laptop at the moment so I can't test too easily to see if it is COD causing the problems. I have already reinstalled the drivers to no avail.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions!

    Cheers,
    James

Connect laptop to external LCD/TV, if you see same symptoms then problem is with GPU. But if everything looks fine on external monitor, probably there's something wrong with LCD (electronics or connecting tape/cable) in laptop.
