When I first had only Windows on my hard drive, the multiplayer mode was fine on my laptop @medium settings. After I made it dual booting Windows & Xubuntu, I can't really play any maps on multiplayer mode without a serious frame lag (same settings as before).

Before: avg fps was between 47-59
Now: avg fps hovers below 15 consistently

Should I just re-format my drive and make it Windows-only? Or, is my hard drive failing? I bought this laptop back in October, btw.

Dual Boot should not be effecting you in any way. Its just more files on the HDD sitting around doing nothing while your booting into Windows.

You will have to figure out what the problem is by checking common problems.

First note that SC2 is extremely demanding and wildly varies on how demanding it is based on map/game type.

Just a few things to check to get you started:

1.) Temperature, make sure the cpu & gpu are not overheating causing throttling.

2.) Game Settings: make sure they are still set to what they used to be.

3.) Video Card Drivers - Install some fresh new drivers with a clean install method.

Also important, make sure your in max performance mode and plugged in to the wall for power. If you were trying to play on battery power and your used to playing on mains power, a laptop does not perform the same usually it will force itself into a lower performance mode to save power.

I noticed that after a patch my settings got all messed up (my resolution and AA setting were changed...in my case they went down, but they may have gone up in yours). Check resolution, V-sync settings, mouse latency, etc.
