I only played a little bit of RA3 but of what I played (maybe 5 or 6 missions of the soviet campaign), it's way better than CNC3 in my opinion.

RA1. I haven't played it in years yet I can still remember all the units/strengths/weaknesses, the cutscenes, the anthem... One of the greatest RTS ever.

Although I voted the original Red Alert, I have to post some love for C&C3 as the second-place-getter. Ignoring Kane's Wrath, that is, since it introduces all those cool new units for all three factions, yet makes it so you only get to play with ONE set of them in the SP gameplay.

Dammit, I want to use the Steel Talons in SP play, stop slanting things towards multiplayer only!

    It was my honorable mention.

I have to think everyone who said CNC3 has just never played the older games (or played them after CNC3) because CNC3 was terrible. It was not at all like the previous games, which were pretty balanced and FUN because you had to use certain tactics to counter opponents' tactics. When I played CNC3 I won every time with the SAME EXACT strategy. I would try other things, but it always came down to building 500 airships (forget the name) and just overwhelming the enemy. BORING. Red Alert 2: YR, I could go and take out an entire enemy base with four guardian GIs and Tanya.

Any C&C game before EA games took over was good.

I have the solution for this. Press ESC when ingame, go to the game options and move the Difficulty slider from Easy to Hard. :D

Nah, I always play CNC games in Hard, skirmishes with brutal enemies. Even with super weapons on it's easy to defend yourself - you just build many of all production facilities including the conyard (they tend to strike the conyard and war factories most with super weapons) and space everything out. Then setup a staging area where you keep your troops (away from your base) and you're set. I was able to complete 90% of the game, maybe more using only airships. Even when it was like OH THEY HAVE GOOD ANTI AIR DEFENSES YOU'LL HAVE TO BE CLEVER the easiest way to do the mission was still to just overwhelm the enemy. You could of course do this in any command and conquer game, but CNC3 was the worst in that aspect.

I like them all, but Tiberian Sun/Firestorm is my favorite. Just wish I could actually play RA3. I know there's been some complaints about it, but I'm not too critical of games like these. I just like to have fun blowing crap up and as long as it has a halfway decent story it works for me.

afdude2018, I'm with you there. Reviews can be so uber-critical at times because of one or two minor things that someone didn't like, but the rest of the game is fun. And yes when you want to blow crap up, as you say, it has its merit too.

On the one hand I love Tiberian Sun and the dark post-apocalyptic scenario, but RA2&Addon are just so much fun...
But at least I can state with all certainty that C&C3 was terrible and I won't buy RA3 after playing the demo

C&C 3 for me, units felt solid and real, not cartoony like RA3 hehe which is fun, and RA2 looks like clay and 2d

generals is kinda slow and blocky to me.

This annoys me because they never were supposed to be cartoony. The first one wasn't cartoony at all. And neither was the second one until Yuri's Revenge. They are far fetched due to some of the weapons, yes, but they tried to maintain a serious tone until EA took over. EA made the in-game videos downright cheesey in RA3 and made the units go from slightly far fetched to downright stupid (parachuting bears? ...)

I mean graphically. I agree, lots of RA3 is stupid because it's not even futuristic, it's just insane - like that vehicle that cannons out infantry. Dumb.
All of the Red Alert games were supposed to have a kind of cartoonly look to them, including Red Alert 1 and 2 (pre YR).

Original Red Alert, the greatest RTS & one of my favourite games of all time, its what hooked me into gaming being one of my first PC games, Red Alert 2 is a close second but isn't a classic in the same way as Red Alert.

RA2, hands down the best one of the bunch. I played them all up to Generals.

And there is nothing that beats a 400 mini tank rush. I remember me and a buddy one time pushing to find out what the game limits were. I think we hit a limit on naval ships at 99 and helicopters at about 150 and I want to say we got up to 499 tanks...but that was many many moons ago.
