Considering switching to a notebook from a desktop.... but I do play games online. That said, what makes the system suitable for good graphics and performance? Is it the video card? Processor? Memory? All of the above?

Budget will be up to $1,500....though obviously less is better. :D

For good graphics performance, the video card matters most. Without that, gaming isn't really possible.

Next in order of importance I would place memory . . you need a good deal of memory, at least 1GB, to play the latest games. 2GB is best.

Then comes the processor. Intel Pentium M's and AMD Turion/Athlon processors are a good amount faster than Celerons and Semprons in processor intensive activities, such as gaming.

If you are looking for a notebook, we need more information than that. ..completing the What Should I Buy FAQ in the hardware forum would be really helpful. Just make a new thread there.

It depends on what kind of gaming you are planning on doing but for the most part i agree with chazman. But what also makes a notebook suitable for online gaming is your internet service which i believe is the most overlooked part about gaming. I used to have problems and i would always blame my computer for " lag " but it turned out to be my internet service..
